Mutilated 1955 Topps - 206 Mutants now in the Fold

The "Mutilated" 1955 Topps Set is now complete/

To be honest there are ample opportunities for downgrading going forward.

Highlights of the set will be posted soon on the main board if permission is granted.

This set if graded would be at the bottom of any existing Registry.

Thanks to all who participated in any way, willingly or unwillingly, in the completion of this project.

Frank, are you striving to become an honorary member of OBC?

Where is Lucky Larry when I need him?:D

Jobu 06-01-2016 01:08 PM

Please let me know the next time you set up at a show, I want to be the first one to go through the box of cards you have out listed as commons. :D

Frank,

I'm one of those OBC guys. Sorry my 55 Topps are very low and I can't hit your lists. LMK if you start a 54/56/57 set or if you need a sponser to join OBC - creases and corner clips are always welcome!

Bob

OBC grade 55s

Sounds like a blast, Frank! PM sent re: warped, scratched, scuffed, torn, folded, rounded, stained, punctured, and just about anything else short of toxic.

James (OBC since 2/98)

To give you a better idea of where I am going with this, here is an image of a unique variation of the Ted Williams card. Ted lost his border, but found a Preston Ward border in the junkyard. A true 1 of 1 :D

Frank,
Interested in these? I hope they're miscut enough to reside in your shoebox. Name your price, and they're yours!

Thanks to all who have contributed with cards and offers and interest.

I'm guessing from what remains that the high numbers started close to #154.;)

46 To Go

Let's get 'er done.

Barely recognizable cards welcomed.

13 to go

Still looking for that barely recognizable Clemente, that hammered Aaron and a Koufax that has struck out big time.

Is this #47 Aaron hammered out enough for you, Frank?

It looks much nicer in hand! ;)

It's my only copy so I'm just not really sure I want to part with it however?

Shorttmail66 06-18-2016 06:24 AM

Frank, I have a Throneberry for you. I sent a PM a few days ago....

I might pay top dollar for that Aaron, Irv.

I'm just not sure that would include the rest of the stack though.:D

It's crunch time guys. When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

The world of misfit cards. I like it. What's next negative grading, with zero being you don't have the card at all ;)

I still feel beat up cards have more of a story to them. A story we can only imagine.

The Negative grading scale that I am using is as follows with the number of cards in each grade in parentheses.

1 - Full and partial thickness paper loss
Tears
Scotch tape or Scotch tape residue
Marks that cannot be ignored
Major ragged border trimming (55)

2 - Major or Minor Creasing without paper loss. Rounded corners. True beaters that do not meet the stringent criteria required for a 1 rating. (110)

3 - Cards that almost look VG, with either a small wrinkle or minimal paper loss or corner fraying. (33)

4 - Cards that would probably grade VG (6)

5 - Cards that have actually been graded in the 3-5 range. (3)

6 - Cards that have graded at the ExMt (6) or better level. (1)

I am pleased to report that the average grade of this set is less than 2 currently, but as you can see, there are 43 outliers at the higher end of the grading scale that should be downgraded.

A list of the cards that require downgrading will be forthcoming.
