1969 Topps Reggie Jackson

So Reggies rookie in a 9 holder is now 44k? I wonder how many 9s are still raw? (if PSA still gives them out?). Man, that seems like a lot of money for a card like that....but what do I know?

Wow!

I can't help but think many are out there, but, like you, what do I also know?

JustCollectVP 08-13-2016 07:19 AM

Not to sound flippant, but that is a flip 9. There's no way that I'd expect that to pull a MINT grade with the significant tilt (diamond cut).

Exhibitman 08-13-2016 07:48 AM

Yeah, I'm happy with this $20 pick-up

How much were these 2 years ago?

That is some crazy money for a PSA 9 RJ. I will have to stay with my mid-grade Jackson.

me too...while a bit challenging to find centered...there are millions of these!!!!

Stonepony 08-13-2016 08:53 AM

Completely nuts

bbcard1 08-13-2016 09:54 AM

I am pretty sure those folks and I do not share the same hobby.

mechanicalman 08-13-2016 10:29 AM

Damn. I wish there was a mechanism to take a short position on some of these post war rookies.

begsu1013 08-13-2016 10:51 AM

how is there not at least 3 "wrong section" comments posted yet? :D

"quickly and quietly"

Quit your sniveling! I'm pretty sure the forum owner has free reign where he wants to posts? :D

That's for sure! When the proprietor of the board starts posting in the wrong sections then it's definitely time to stop complaining .

Reality is that most of us care about all cards so who the f cares anymore!

rholmes 08-13-2016 12:20 PM

Because this board is not what it used to be.

edit: it's actually refreshing to see the tide quickly and quietly changing on the main page.

several hate it and i get their point of view as well. but like pete said, it's all about the cards.

I knew you weren't. I was only joking back with you. :D

I don't believe I was around for that one, but I can understand your position thinking maybe I was being serious?

In reality, I was just getting you back for your "jesus, Focker" :D reply in the August pick up thread in Postwar, which I also took as you just joking around.

It's all good. :D

Much fewer of these than his rookie card.

pclpads 08-13-2016 02:37 PM

$44K?? A fool and his money. Buyer obviously has more money
than brains.

4815162342 08-13-2016 02:48 PM

$44k? You can get two '88 Fleer Jordan stickers for that!

Leon 08-13-2016 04:24 PM

FYI, thread this was posted in the wrong section, it was early and and I was running out to set up at a local show and thought I put it in the correct place. It was a mistake. There can be some Off Topics on the front page and those are usually looked at to be commensurate with participation on the board. In other words the more you post the more leeway you get. The board has always been run that way. And again, this thread was posted here by mistake. My apologies. Threads should generally be posted in their correct sections, imo.

Steve D 08-13-2016 04:44 PM

Something is very bass-ackwards when a Reggie Jackson goes for more than a T206 Plank in the same auction!

Steve

Nobody cares where the thread was posted other than the thread police. Thanks for posting this Leon.

I do love this card. I also been vocal about the obscene prices for some of these vintage cards, but this card is the bomb. PWCC had some 8's that went bonkers with the bidding. I'd love to get an 8, but it's out of my league now.

It could have been Reggie. For awhile he was buying up all his rookies. Does he still have those? It may be time for him to cash in!

Rich Klein 08-14-2016 12:25 AM

Reggie lost his rookie cards in a fire a while back.

GasHouseGang 08-14-2016 12:43 AM

Oh, I remember hearing that now that you mention it. That's too bad.

Reggie definitely lost a lot to fires (3 of them, car warehouse once and home twice)....he had supposedly collected 563 of his 69 Topps cards (one for each HR). You can only wonder how many high end copies were lost in his house fire.....there are only 35 of 4600+ PSA copies of his 69 card that are 9s or better, so maybe he did have some high end copies.

That one looks like a twin of mine, Adam--great centering (which is tough for that card), but a little wear. Personally, I'm waiting for my PSA Authentic Printer's Proof Topps '69 Super Reggie to get the proper respect--I've only seen one other, in an REA auction several years back.

Highest regards,

Larry

I think you got it quite right, Leon--it is reflective of general market trends, which affect everyone.

May collecting be like golden sunsights,

Larry

I had an "8" and sold it all too soon, many moons ago!

Oh well, win some, lose some,

Larry

Talk to Begsu. Two months ago I offered to take the short position on the Rose rookie for a dinner at next years National.
