I've loved his work since a kid. You will be greatly missed Mr. Petty!

Amazing body of work. And was a fun performer to see live. His music will live on for a long long time.

That sucks. Saw him a few years back in concert. Great musician, RIP Tom....

Conflicting reports from several different reliable sources as of 5:30-6pm EDT
-- some have him gone, others have him on life support.
Doesn't look good either way. Fingers crossed he's still alive and can recover...

He was truly great. Thank you for so many killer tunes. Sad sigh.

I heard the same thing. TMZ, which I seen on my local news, said he was taken off of life support and is now breathing on his own?

There was a report earlier in the day that he has passed away AND that was a false report. He had not been taken off life support yet at that time but was taken off later on and passed away that evening.

An unbelievably talented and prolific songwriter and performer. I recently watched the Netflix special on him and he really seemed like a great guy. I had always had an impression of him being a little arrogant and mean spirited, but that show showed the opposite.

Some folks can't live OR die in today's world.

He WAS AND IS one of my favorites

Maybe one of the most underrated musicians of all time. If you ask people who their favorite musician or band is, it's almost never Tom Petty, but if you are like me he has maybe the 3rd most songs on my iPhone.

got to see him in concert 2x, once at jones beach and another at MSG - he was great. RIP

We use to have a saying at work that if a man doesnt like Tom Petty he cant be trusted:D

RIP to a Legend who was taken too soon as the good ones usually are.
