In both 1942 Babe Ruth took to the field for Uncle Sam by participating in two highly publicized events to help raise money for the war effort. Offered here are mementos from the event, including an original snapshot photo and two programs from the doubleheader between the Yankees and Washington Senators held at Yankee Stadium on August 23, 1942. Most of the proceeds from the game went to the Army and Navy Relief Funds. Over 69,000 fans did their patriotic duty that day by attending; however, most came not for the two games between the Yankees and Senators, but for the entertainment between the games.

It was during the short break that Babe Ruth once again stepped up to the plate to face the games greatest pitcher of all time, Walter Johnson in a one on one contest. Ruth did not disappoint the fans that afternoon, as he launched the fifth pitch into the right field bleachers. His final swing resulted in another mammoth drive that landed just foul in the upper deck, after which he made a triumphant circle of the bases and tipped his cap to the fans as he left the field. That would be the last time Babe Ruth traveled the bases at the Yankee Stadium.

Offered here are the official game programs (games one and two of the doubleheader) with the game one program featuring notes from the exhibition including names and details. Both programs are scored in pencil. Additionally, you will receive a original snapshot photo that was taken from the fan in attendance from the upper deck.

The programs (6.5 x 10 inches) are in Excellent to Mint condition. The photograph is roughly 3.5 x 3.5 inches. Lastly you will receive a card manufactured in 1980 which shows an interesting collage of the Johnson vs. Ruth match up.
