Return to Babe Ruth Barnstorming Ballpark

I did an interview today with Amanda Rose a NBC News reporter out of Medford, Oregon. It was regarding the Babe Ruth 1924 Tour real photo postcard in our current auction. I had no idea she had gone to the actual ballpark that is in the photo with Ruth standing in front of the stands. I can’t believe it still exists. Kudos to this true journalist.

Here is a link to the story

Great, great postcard but not the only one known.

Cool story and card! Love the old ballpark.

Cool story, fun to know that the park still exists. I absolutely LOVE this image.

Interesting read about that day, I guess the newspapers couldn't
get their facts straight.

Jeff do you know of another? Please let me know so I can correct if necessary.

I have seen at least one, Josh. I know a few people that owned it and saw it in person, if I recall correctly. And I think there might be another but not sure. It was always one of my faves and I couldn't afford it then just as now.
Jeff, whom you asked, would know better than I if there are more. I know there is at least one more.

Have seen 4 others including the one Leon mentions as I used to own it. One other sold on eBay years ago for cheap and was a real beater. The two others were in personal collections, one I saw a photo online and the other I saw in person. Amazing postcard regardless, I have bids in on it.

By the way, the 1907 Tigers dugout photo cannot be 1907 based on the uniform and Jim Delahanty being in the photo.

Cool story, I didn't know of it beforehand. I drive down past Dunsmuir every year, so maybe I'll have to take my boys for a pit stop there and find the field.
And it was pretty funny and a perfect example of small-town media that the reporter shows which side of the plate Babe hit from.

Hi Josh it’s JoeT here. I owned a very nice SGC 1.5 that I sold last year.

I will addend the listing to allow for other specimens.

I'm going to guess the fliipper takes a hit here, with the disclosure
of more cards "extant" than originally suggested in the Lelands sale. Will be interesting to see what happens. Regardless, an amazing image. Whether it's $20,000 amazing is in the eye (or wallet) of the beholder.

$6700 less than 24 hrs after listed.
9 days to go.

Bicem 03-31-2019 06:36 PM

This is my old one, guessing it goes quite a bit lower than the Leland's copy.

Seems to be quite common for PWCC. (Or for many auctions for that matter but especially true with what I see for PWCC) Big surge out of the gates then cool down for the middle and then often a surge at the end.

Shoeless Moe 04-09-2019 07:24 PM

13.9K with an hour to go...

$14.5k. It would have gone higher but I didn't want to get into a bidding war with the winner who had an 18 feedback and was very frequently bidding.

Snapolit1 04-10-2019 06:42 AM

I was watching this and a number of other high end items close last night. I think nearly all of them would have drawn higher prices in a top end auction. Some significantly so.

Protection bids :)? I was a low 5 figure sniper. I really like that RPPC but just need to find one in a box of old postcards marked a buck each.

I'd daresay (if anyone has used that word in the last 100 years) it's one of the coolest post cards in the hobby. Breath taking.

Speaking as someone who attended multiple postcard shows per year for the last decade, this will never happen. Some postcard sellers are dumb, but none of them would leave a RPPC baseball scene in their bargain box. The best baseball postcard I ever found at a show was a Superior, Nebraska team RPPC with Dazzy Vance on it for $50. However, you just never know...last year I did find a Titanic postcard in a dollar box and sold it on ebay for $500.
