LOTG Auction

Is the auction open? It says it is in SMR and the first two lots have bids, but nothing else does. I’m more confused than usual.

pokerplyr80 03-26-2019 01:41 AM

In keeping with tradition I predict something will be seriously messed up, followed by several posts about how they're the greatest auction house in the business so we should just let it slide.

philliesphan 03-26-2019 04:28 AM

I was able to successfully place a bid just now.

Bicem 03-26-2019 08:56 AM

Think both LOTG and RMY opened last night, both featuring great Joe Jackson photos as lot #1.

MVSNYC 03-26-2019 09:21 AM

Nice, diverse offering...great as always!

Michael Peich 03-26-2019 11:23 AM

I just made a bid, too, with no problems. Another terrific auction with lots of good items. Thanks, Al.

Cheers,
Mike

drcy 03-26-2019 11:34 AM

Have never seen those Matty Tuxedo Tobacco slides before

oldjudge 03-26-2019 11:45 AM

Great auction, Al. Love the 19th century stuff.

Nailed it!!! http://net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=267341

That is about as easy of a prediction as this post Pete Made in another thread.
In 2019 I predict that some prominent names in the hobby will become implicated/found to be guilty of nefarious behavior.

Pretty much 100% guaranteed.

This post is why social media sucks.

Never heard the 1958 NFL Championship referred to as the Ice Bowl before (RMY).

I thought the Ice Bowl the the 1967 NFC Championship between Packers and Cowboys?

So why does my post suck and get a response but the original posts or anybody else that quoted them not get the "your post sucks treatment"?

I guess if a paid comedian doesn't find the humor in those posts and mine maybe they do suck.:(

It reads like trolling and having fun at someone else's expense and then adding in an unrelated quote about nefarious behavior - but that's just me; I am no internet comedian.

Let's get one thing straight here -- Adam has never been paid for being a comedian.

He should be, his stand up is hilarious.

I had not seen that other thread. I also do not know the history with this auction house but seems like he made an innocent mistake. Talk about living in a fishbowl. I must make 3 of those types of mistakes a day.

I have never bid but I will. I feel confident that he would not be allowed to be an advertiser here if he were not a decent guy. I am late to the party, possibly, so please do not jump down my throat too badly. :D

oldjudge 03-28-2019 04:27 PM

Al is the salt of the Earth, and he has Jeff to complement him. Maybe that makes Jeff the pepper of the Earth.

If anybody took my post as a shot at Al or LOTG that is 100% not what I meant it to be. I put what I though was 2 funny comments from different threads together. I must need more comedy lessons from Frank.:)

Al C.risafulli 03-28-2019 04:48 PM

Hi everybody:

First, thanks for all the positive comments. I'll say it again - I will never claim not to make mistakes. I will, however, pledge do do everything I can to make them right when they happen. And they will keep happening, as they do with all businesses.

Based on Jay's post, I also think this is a good time to mention that Jeff is no longer employed by Love of the Game. Jeff was presented with an opportunity that was hard to pass up, which made it impossible to devote the kind of time to LOTG that the job requires. His departure was 100% amicable, we're still good friends and hopefully always will be. We definitely miss him already and if I'm able to replace him with someone even half as good, I'll be fortunate.

Thanks,
-Al

I read it as the intended joke and didn't read it as an attack on LOTG or any specific person or entity. And I've had jokes gone awry too.

ejharrington 03-28-2019 05:37 PM

I received the catalog today; very nice stuff!

Great move on Jeff's part! :)

insidethewrapper 03-28-2019 07:02 PM

How can item # 41 be a scorecard from the 1906 Season ? The cover states "World Champions" 1906 "American League Champions" ? Unless they could predict the future, it must be a 1907 Scorecard. Any opinions ? Needs to be relisted or upgraded to 1907 Scorecard. Big difference when dealing with Cobb material. I see "Archer" is listed for Detroit and he only played for Detroit in 1907

RedsFan1941 03-28-2019 07:58 PM

al is a great guy

Sorry you didn't like my post. As far as predictions go though it turns out it was spot on. On both accounts.

mantlefan 03-28-2019 08:45 PM

Correct

Can I buy back my introductions to some of you people?

RCMcKenzie 03-28-2019 11:02 PM

Lotg

I received my catalog today. Nice auction!

Here's what I would say about attempting comedy on the internet... If you are a Frank B. or a Colin Quinn, known for your comedy, then you don't need to put "ha-ha" at the end of your attempted jokes, but if you are just a regular poster like me, then you need to post "ha-ha" at the end of your post, so that there is no confusion about what you are talking about. ha-ha

oldjudge 03-30-2019 04:04 PM

Still have not received my catalog. Hope it arrives soon.

CobbSpikedMe 03-30-2019 04:49 PM

Got mine today and it's wonderful. :D

Pheeeew thank God, now I can finally have a good nights sleep tonight.

oldjudge 03-31-2019 06:15 PM

Hopefully, the pack mule carrying my catalog will make it over the Rockies.

oldjudge 04-02-2019 12:33 AM

The catalog finally arrived. Are there others still awaiting theirs?

Bicem 04-02-2019 07:59 AM

Got mine in Seattle a few days ago. Whoa, Cobb Fielding postcard doing well. Sold mine too early. :(

jeffmohler 04-02-2019 08:13 AM

Speaking of the Dietsche Cobb Fielding, I am glad I got mine a few years back when Jeff L upgraded his copy.

Speaking of Jeff, I can hardly believe I only have two degrees of separation from El Chapo - probably prefer to have a few more than that!

Bicem 04-02-2019 08:23 AM

Think you'll be ok Jeff.

BeanTown 04-02-2019 09:02 AM

Fielding Ty Cobb Dietsche value rising quickly over the last year. Simular thing happened to the Gehrig 1925 Exhibit as the value soared quickly a few years back.

insidethewrapper 04-02-2019 09:36 AM

1907 Dietsche Fielding Cobb. It's Cobb, it's a "Rookie" year issue, low supply ( 12 graded by PSA) and high demand. Should be priced as high as some of those Ruth cards . Next $100K card , if in higher grade ??
