Does PWCC edit creases from their cards?

I realize these are not baseball cards but the issue isn't the type of card it is. It seems as if PWCC is editing photos in an extreme manner or could it been taken from a particular angle under ideal lighting conditions? Look at these two photos of the same card taken from PWCC around 1/23/2019 and the identical card a couple months later from probstein123 on 3/6/2019. I copied these photos from VCP.

Old Judge posted an example of this recently where the PWCC scan did not capture the wrinkles very well.

frankbmd 06-01-2019 09:09 AM

If they're removing wrinkles/creases on the West Coast and adding wrinkles/creases on the East Coast, we are all in trouble.:D

swarmee 06-01-2019 09:14 AM

That seems impossible. Half the heavy wrinkles are gone, half are visible? Why even do it on this card? Mindboggling. There is no possible angle you could take that picture that would remove the ones that are missing.

Who's the guy that does the card overlays on this board? This would be AMAZING to overlay.

Edit: It's not recently graded, but my thought was maybe the creases came back. Maybe it's a CCD vs. standard scanner issue, where the CCD scanner is picking up the depth of the creasing, while the older style is not.

Most likely a scanner issue.

Thanks, that is awesome. If PWCC is still in business next year, they should upgrade their scanners.

I think this is just a bad PSA image grab.

I've always thought that PWCC uses Ultra High End Scanners and utilizes ALL of the teaks available (Color Correct, Contrast, etc) for their postings. The images are all pretty much uber sharp shiney

doug.goodman 06-01-2019 10:52 AM

How many PWCC threads to we really need?

I mean, "scanner issue" could mean just about anything to be fair. It could be a CCD vs. Standard issue as mentioned by somebody else, it could be a Descreen setting issue, and it also could very well be an Epson ICE setting they are using on their scans.

In the last case that would be a purposeful attempt to clean up or diffuse creases in scans.

Leading the trading card marketplace since 1998.

One is probably for when they want limited bids and one is probably for when they want maximum bids.

Peter_Spaeth 06-01-2019 02:25 PM

As much as I despise them, I am not ready to fault them on scans/pictures. Some wrinkles only show at an angle. Their scans used to be thermonuclear -- see past discussions -- but for quite some time I have thought they were quite good and not cranked or at least not to a significant degree.

Buy from the Midwest

Now that I hopefully won't get attacked by the pro PWCC crowd. I have noticed for many many years when PWCC listed a questionable card they would disable the zoom feature on eBay for that card. I have been telling close friends this for a long time.

Should I create a separate one for this?

Creases removed and came back later.

swarmee 06-01-2019 06:02 PM

Not really, as the cards were graded like 4 years before they were sold, two months apart.
