The last time I was at the house, they (wisely) had reprints tacked to the headboard.

Reulbach and Jimmy Hart, I think? Seen this a hundred times and never noticed.

Yup, and a '40 Playball John Rucker

Doesn’t exactly jive that a 10 year old in the 50’s would have cards that are close to 50 years old on their headboard.

My guess is that someone was sent out to buy some “old baseball cards” and overshot the mark.

Movie takes place in 1946. So, these are very good representation for the time period.

It actually takes place in 1940. Here is Ralphie's Little Orphan Annie decoder ring showing the year. He gets it in the mail during the movie.

You are correct! I got mixed up. Err.

It's a major award. Already watched it 3 times by noon today.

I bet Ralphie’s old man gave him those T-206s. The old man probably collected them as a kid. Ralphie probably got the Playball from Pulaski’s Candy Store.

So, Ralphie was born nearly 100 years ago. Yet, his childhood didn't look that different than mine.

:eek::eek::eek:

campyfan39 12-26-2021 07:06 AM

Wow!
Seen the movie legitimately 200+ times and never noticed. Thank you.

Wow, I always assumed it was early-mid 50’s…1940 makes the Play Ball contemporary and the idea that “dad gave him a few old T206” much more reasonable.

Apparently PSA made a set registry for the Christmas Story for anyone interested.

obiwan1129 12-30-2021 06:16 AM

To me it is is the essential Christmas movie. Love watching it every year, visited the house in Cleveland with my family a few summers back. Loads of fun.

LMAO over the PSA registry, I guess there is something for everyone.

Do you mean this scene, where he's reading the Red Ryder ad in bed?

There's a watermark on this pic (that could be cropped out if you want to do a close up of his head/baseball card area) and I'm not sure if it's hi-def enough, but it's a starting point. Maybe you could use this pic to do an image search and zero in on what you're looking for.*

*But be very careful about searching for "little Ralphie laying in bed," as the authorities will start adding your name to all sorts of investigative lists!!!

Once my mind's on something, I can't stop going!!

Here's an 8.5" x 11" page with the 8" x 10" active area (I'd have to extend the picture box a bit to allow for a 'safety' bleed. Just PM me.), that you can bring to Kinko's and print out...

To put things in perspective...Ralphie collecting (circa 1909) T206 in 1940 (31 year difference), is the equivalent of someone collecting a 1993 Jeter Rookie today (31 year difference)...let that sink in. :)
