Wander Franco

One insider says it's very unlikely Wander Franco will ever play Major League Baseball again (source).

Is Wander Franco one of the players for whom thousands of dollars were paid for one of his rookie cards before he even made his Major League debut? I know Stephen Strasburg and Luis Robert fall into that category, but I don't recall if Wander Franco did (or any other players, for that matter).

If so... some poor soul out there is swallowing a very bitter pill these days. (Maybe "poor" isn't the way to describe him, but you know what I mean.) And, again, if so, let's hope this puts a stop to the practice. Something's not right when a brand new card of someone I've never heard of, who's still in the minors, sells for more than a decent '52 Topps Mantle.

Yes, anecdotally, it looks like his paper is getting dumped right now in the market. This said, some of his rarer refractors were selling for over $300 as of yesterday. But it's hard to see how there is much of a bid for his stuff in the hobby. Even if he is ultimately exonerated from any criminal charges in the DR, allegations of pedophilia is about as damaging as you can get.

He's dead in the water as far as the market goes. I'm taking whatever I can get for what I have left at this point. Can't tell you how many folks are scooping up my items on eBay then just not paying as the values drop 10% by the hour.
