Theft at The National

I hadn't heard anything about this before now. Did anyone else know about it?

Call me crazy but I'm not leaving anything with a $200k value just sitting in a locked car. Hell, when I go to ballgames after work I'll leave my laptop at the office and pick it up on the way home.

At least it wasn't near $2 million like the two previous thefts.

I didn't and that really sucks!

Crazy to leave $275K in a briefcase in an apparently unlocked van.

Still, hate it happened.

I think they will catch these two guys if they have video showing them taking the case and then getting into the blue vehicle.

Now, the cash may well be gone but a better chance of catching these guys than the ones in Dallas IMO but I hope they catch them all ASAP.

Is there ever going to be another major show where someone doesn't get jacked?

Lorewalker 08-13-2024 10:08 PM

I know most dealers do not get shaken down but over and over crimes are being perpetrated on dealers who are simply being careless. Nobody deserves to be jacked but what happened to really being more careful and taking steps to protect your cash and inventory?

After my law enforcement career ended, I ran a firearms training company and would often be at gun shows. It was not uncommon to hear about dealers with a van full of handguns after the show, stopping at Cracker Barrel for dinner on the way home and finding that their vans were burglarized while they were eating.

Candidly, I feel awful for anyone having their money or belongings stolen, and would be sick if this happened to me.

With that being said, to toss $275,000 in CASH into a car in a bag/briefcase unattended is a mind-blowing level of stupid and naive. There isn't a single reason on earth to not keep that level of cash in a bag attached to your person at all times. The dealer screwed themselves by being careless in this case.

Why am I picturing Walter White with his black duffel bag?

“Whatcha got there Walt, cinder blocks?”

Half million in cash.

“Haha good one…”
