OT: Offering $200 for player identification 1923-4 Giants jersey

I picked up a Giants road jersey in the recent Heritage auction. They didn't know which player wore it. Fortunately, with the team name across the chest and pinstripes (which are at a different angle at the collar) there are many points of reference. If someone can provide a photo match, I'll pay $200 to the first person to provide the photo. I don't need it matched to any particular game, so a team picture or waist-up card or photo works.

A couple clues:
1. Indicated in the collar is size 44, which is on the larger side.
2. With no initials or other player ID, a mid or late season callup is certainly possible. One would expect established players would have ID indicators, since this was before numbers were worn on the back.

An interesting possibility is Hack Wilson, who was called up at the very end of the 1923 season and played one road game on October 7. Barrel-chested, the size 44 might be consistent.

Anyway, there have been many ID threads that have been fun and interesting, so I'm spicing this one up with a cash reward.

I'm attaching the picture here, plus the link to the Heritage listing. They have outstanding magnification functionality. Thanks to anyone who gives it a try.

Just a question (from someone who isn't schooled in uniforms).

Is this definitely a road jersey?

The reason I ask is it seems odd to have the team name on front, and not the city name. (Again, not schooled in uniforms.)

The home shirts had the NY logo on the chest or sleeve.

Heritage said it is 1923-24 but looking at the site below, it almost looks like it could be 1919-20. Maybe the Spalding tag identifies the year range?

What's also interesting is, if you look at the Heritage site and zoom in, the pinstripes are actually blue and red.

Great looking jersey. Wouldn't the "Giants" be in red not black if it was 1919-20?

The blue and red pinstripes together give it a Mauve look at a distance like the 1913-1914 jerseys but they didn't have the "Giants" on the front in those years.

Good luck in your hunt.

Yes, I think you're right. I figured Heritage had a reason for limiting the years to 1923-24. The lettering is navy blue.

It's interesting that in some colorized photos, the jersey is shown with light blue lettering. Other existing jerseys from this period do have light blue GIANTS. I think that's because those shirts have significant fading, while the jersey in hand has very little fading. It does make me wonder, if my shirt was significantly faded, what color would the pinstripes appear to be? Would the blue fade out leaving the red, or visa-versa?

In general, Red is a more fugitive color than blue.
