West Coast Card Show Ontario

It appears the card hobby is still pretty active on the west coast. I walked through the floor today in Ontario. A surprisingly nice turn out. More modern than pre-war, but there was still a lot of vintage to look at if you sought it out. Attached is a picture of one floor taken about 2 this afternoon. There was twice the amount of floor space pictured. The rooms were only separated by a hall. I did see a lot of cash changing hands and all the dealers seemed pretty happy with the traffic. All the players were there; SGC, JSA, PSA, Beckett, etc. No lines for turn in at SGC and my autographed items I turned into JSA were authenticated and back within an hour - very happy with that turn-around.

Yes, I told JSA to put the sticker on front of the Goudey. With 2 holes punched in it I figured it doesn't matter much.

Looks like speed dating for socially inept gay men...

I closely checked that show photo, to the point of using a magnifying glass, and did not spot a single identifiable female. Perhaps the doorperson out front was being a little too picky when determining if a member of the opposite sex was qualified to enter?

There's a girl right between the 2 guys in front. How could you miss that?

That one was too obvious for me to spot. I blame the magnifying glass...it was focusing on all the folks further away.

I located the girl in question, and she agreed to talk to me only if I presented her in silhouette...

Attachment 651540

She relayed this telling account:
"Yes I am "Marcy" (didn't want to reveal her real name) and that's me in the photograph. All I was looking for was a 1977 Topps Garry Maddox to complete my Phillies set, but all I found were hundreds of chubby short guys asking for my hand in marriage.
Admittedly, it was exciting at first, but each time someone doffed their cap, all I saw was an endless sea of baldness. It quickly became a nightmare!!"

I'm sure that there are many socially inept gay men who would be offended by the comparison.

Weird comments in this one.

All tongue in cheek, Matt, but you gotta admit, that photo is just every stereotype about collectors being unkempt, chunky dudes (and I say that with an unblemished history of staunch unkempt chunkiness).
