Greg Morris Marketplace closing
Just saw this note while logging into GregMorrisMarketplace:
Notice: Auctions on our website will be halted as of May 20. Visit our eBay store for future listings: eBay Store Anyone here using the marketplace? I've had several orders and found it to be pretty user-friendly and great for building sets. I guess there wasn't enough $$ in it to have that site going in addition to their eBay sales. |
Interesting. I guess the costs of running their off-eBay marketplace were just too much to justify keeping it going. I thought I heard at one point that they were planning to migrate away from eBay, but maybe they realized that wasn’t going to work as well as they hoped.

It could be taken as a compelling testament as to how absolutely boring and uninteresting 1960s and '70s baseball set-breaks are.
|
As much as there are problems here and there, it's hard to beat eBay's platform, reliability, and reach.

Maybe...just maybe like ebay did to pwcc...they complained to GM?

At the same time, there are a lot of big dealers who also sell through their own website. Deans, 707, 4SharpCorners, just to name a few. Hard to imagine that eBay is squeezing all of them to give up their websites. But maybe GM was different in some way. Was GM also running auctions on their site? Or just fixed price stuff? |

This is, of course, why they gave up on it. You only get one chance to make a first impression, and they dropped the ball right out of the gate with their platform having all sorts of issues with bidding. And they never put good cards on there either. So there was no draw. People who came to check it out, like myself, didn't come back. Hammer prices are a function of the number of eyeballs and they didn't have enough of them. |
