1976 Carousel Discs anyone have a complete list of back stamps?

2 Attachment(s)
Collecting in 1976 the Disc sets issued by MSA were all the rage. Trading across the country for sets.
I had a Zipz store near me and had access to promo materials and boxes of cards. So I would search ads in the SCD etc and trade for other sets issued across the country. Isleys Crane Holiday Inn etc. While most of the sets has printed backs Carousel snack bars had a backstamp dependent on location. I picked up a Madison WI set recently to go with Rochester MN set.
So I was wondering if a complete list of all the different backstamps exists.

Jonathan,

Back when I first got back into the hobby I used to try and comply a list of the different stamp backs. Of course that list is long gone but I do remember a thread discussing these Carousel stamped back versions. I try and just pick up Brooks examples but only have a few (probably the more common ones) and haven’t seen any examples recently.

I found one not on the list which is surprising as I only have 5 Carousel discs.

Probably not related to the Carousel discs, but I also have a Brooks Robinson with Circus Wagon Belden #2 stamped on the back. I have no idea where it comes from.

Thanks to everyone I will update list later.

Can you post a picture of the front of the Circus wagon disc please.
Although not a Carousel a close cousin ( like the tasty freeze backstamp) and as such will be added to list.

The front of the Brooks Robinson Circus Wagon disc is the same as the Carousel discs. Here's the front and back.

I don’t know if I have seen a Circus Wagon disc before but I have seen them mentioned a few times so they are legit.

Thank you to everyone who helped update this list. Seems like it needs to get updated every decade or so.

These are two of the Zipz Ice cream Ads I picked up back in 77. Both are double sided. The circle is the exact same on both sides but the rectangle ad has different discs on the bottom of each side.

I wonder if the art department was aware that they doubled up on Steve Rogers in the circle graphic?

Well one disc needed to be mocked up with the trademark info. Might as well be Steve...

On the rectangle example can you picture the other side? Are the discs just mounted some way on the sign? Just one more thing; the dimensions.

The circular ad is VERY COOL!

bigfanNY 06-17-2025 08:07 PM

Hey Mark , Hope all is well. The rectangle sign is 9 1/2 x 13 and the discs look like they are mounted both sides have the same ad. The discs on the other side are Jose Cardenal and Al Hrabosky. The Circle ad is Larger and measures 17 inches across. With Both Frank and Brooks Robinson as well as Jim Palmer in the ad no surprise you like it.

You “know” I’d be attaching a Brooks, Frank or maybe Palmer to the rectangle sign if I had it  I’d actually leave Bench and Brett alone…

You had to post about the discs; now I’m searching for my list and the discs that I have “somewhere” in a box.

bigfanNY 06-19-2025 05:42 PM

Hey Mark There was a time when a group of collectors were trying to put together complete sets of all the different Carousel backs and prices were moving up. Those days are long gone as all of the disc sets are looked at with general disdain. And most of the time complete disc sets can be had for $1 a disk or less.
The exception seems to be when player collectors drive up some of the single disc auctions. So my advise is if you see a set with a Brooks you need probably cheaper to buy the set and sell off the rest as singles.
As for changing the discs .... the sign is almost 50 years old so trying to change the discs could prove challenging. Probably best to leave it as it was when hung in the zipz shop in Avanel NJ .

I was really just joking about the changing out of the discs. I like keeping items in their original condition if at all possible. Of course you should get those two great items in a frame and displayed predominantly on the wall :D
