Worthpoint + Sources for Comps on Tickets

Anyone use Worthpoint? What do you think? Do you get pictures and links to auctions/sales? How does it compare to VCP?

I ask because I am now collecting tickets and I am having trouble finding comps. Worthpoint may be one solution (rather than searching many AH archives).

Ticket collectors -- how/where do you find Comps?

Thanks

bigfanNY 06-25-2025 03:11 PM

I used to use worthpoint often mostly to search if scarce items came up on Ebay. I would definitely recommend it for tracking ticket prices. Orher places are the Obvious REA archive Heritage Archive Goldin Archives. Good luck with your hunt.

I just messed around on Card Ladder and found it picks some stuff up

Sales history requires the $20/month ($200/year) Pro subscription

There is a 7 day free trial option to test things out.

Rhotchkiss 06-25-2025 05:26 PM

Cool, you get that for $20/month. I know there is a free trial, but knowing me, I would sign up, forget to cancel, and be obligated to pay even if I didn’t use it!

Off topic but wondering if there is a known game ticket(s) that is (are) widely considered the holy grail(s). Guessing the issue gets complicated because some older tickets were for an entire season.

In music I know they chase stuff of the Beatles from the 1960-62 Germany clubs.

I asked ChatGPT

I told it no World Series, NBA Finals, Superbowls, etc. since it’s likely people kept those

It came up with:

1. Wilt’s 100 point game
2. Jackie Robinson’s debut
3. Ayrton Senna’s final race
4. Ali vs. Liston 1 (1964)
5. 1936 Berlin Olympics (Jesse Owens)

I use worth point a lot for antiques and collectibles in general maybe baseball memorabilia but not cards as much.

theshowandme 06-25-2025 09:51 PM

Some interesting ones I found in my search while trying to find highest sales of all time

It’s annoying because the 2000 Brady Rookie Auto card has Ticket in the title

Same with some late 1990s Jordan autos from upper deck

But like eBay we can do exclusion tags (-Contenders -upper)

Hi Don, I personally wouldn’t eliminate World Series games, nor Super Bowls from the discussion. In fact, some of the most desirable, rare, special, and/or valuable tickets are from famous World Series games and Super Bowls.

Quick examples that support the above- Larsen Perfect Game, Jackie Robinson Steals Home, 1919 WS, Ruth Called Shot, 1903 (first) WS, Willie Mays “Catch”, Super Bowl I, Super III, etc, etc.

Ryan, welcome to ticket collecting- a truly awesome sector of the Hobby…Re: comps, some of the top auction houses have great archive search engines with 1000’s of past examples (REA, Heritage, Leland’s, Goldin, etc)…great for market research.

I do not disagree with you on value, sentimental, desirable, etc.

I took the word "grail" to mean almost impossible to find married with the desirability.

A lot of people kept those tickets because the magnitude of the event was already known before the games even started.

No one knew Wilt was going to throw up 100 that night. The gym was small and the game was not even televised. Historical significance + small crowd = $$$$$

tjisonline 06-26-2025 08:52 AM

Hey Ryan. The only options we ticket collectors have currently are Card Ladder to some degree (as. Don pointed out) and worthpoint. Worthpoint is pretty good for tickets because it pulls in data from more auction houses.

I was about to DM Nat Turner or Chris / Josh (from CL) if they plan on introducing Ticket Ladder (ha) or ensure CardLadder pulls in more ticket sales.

Tom D. recently shared this Top 100 list with me. Although I may not totally agree with the actual rankings (and maybe a few things missing, i.e. "Jackie Robinson Steals Home" 1955 WS), it’s a wonderful resource & roadmap for ticket collectors, both beginners and advanced. Created by Howard, Shaun, and Mike. (Instagram: @top100tickets) https://www.instagram.com/top100tickets

Very cool - thanks for sharing

The Aaron debut stub in the recent Goldin auction hit 36k. I think that would bump a few off the top 10.

lol. I won that! Not sure if it’s top 10, but it’s pretty beast, I think.

TJ, thank you for the info. Seems like Worthpoint may be worth the investment

I haven't found any comprehensive source for ticket comps.

Another one that may have some value is https://130point.com. It is similar to an ebay search engine but it pulls in some catalog auctions as well. It will also reveal the paid price for ebay Best Offer sales.

I participated in that Top 100 ticket poll that Michael posted. It was conducted at the end of 2022/beginning of 2023. There was no guidance - everyone was free to use their own rationale for ranking. No doubt that there would be some shifting if it were redone today. Value played a role in the rankings, but there are tickets that have since sold for six figures that don't show up on the list. The 1934 Masters Tournament ticket is one. Only four known and one is in the Augusta Golf Club. One sold for $600K in 2022 and an autographed one sold for $470K in 2023.

Tom, great info, thanks for sharing.

Extremely interesting thread, guys. Ryan--thanks for posing the question and starting it!

Cheers,
Mike

I joined worthpoint, basic service - it’s great!! I find it hugely helpful for tickets and it’s not bad for entertainment and other memorabilia. I recommend it.

Worthpoint + Sources for Comps on Tickets

I posted this on our football forum. Sometimes you take a chance on eBay (low feedback rating, poor description, etc) based on gut and I’m glad I did. You’re not going to find a lot of comparables for rare collectibles, just go for it!

I only own a few tickets but really like this 100 year old FULL NFL ticket. There seems to be a plethora of college football tickets (Army, Navy, Yale, Michigan) as well as World Series tickets. Didn’t anyone save NFL football tickets?

I like it because it's the New York Giants inaugural season, 5th game/2nd team win, just one of two 20's games played on a rare Tuesday, it's punched so it actually went to the game and some how survived, and it the oldest known Buffalo football ticket. It predates the four Bears(grange)/Giants tickets that have recently appeared in Heritage. It says play “rain or shine”, but it rained so hard they had to cancel the game at the Polo Grounds and played it on Nov 3 Election Day. It was very rare to cancel an NFL game due the league’s infancy and finances were tight.

Very happy with PSA on this one to Plano,TX. I submitted right before the National on a 55-day turnaround. They entered it almost immediately as opposed to the card orders which could take a month! I got it back in less than a month. Looks great in the holder!

Beautiful ticket, Carl.

Beauty Carl. Can't imagine many of those survived.

130Point is helpful too.

I was catching up on some posts in this thread that I somehow must have missed over the last couple of months, and came upon the old "Top 100" list.

It would indeed be fun to see how that Top 100 list would change in 2025, since tickets seem to still be attracting new collectors, and the most desirable tickets are requiring deeper pockets to acquire them!
