Letters from the past

Back when I was around 14 or 15, in addition to collecting baseball autographs, I liked art and came up with ideas for teams' yearbook or program covers. They probably weren't very professional looking, but I submitted them to some of the teams anyway. I got some great stuff back, such as autographed balls from the Braves and Dodgers. I also had sent in autograph requests to members of the teams front offices; sometimes I got autographs, other times team memorabilia. I got stuff from the American League offices and The Sporting News as well.
When Frank Cashen was with the Orioles, he put aside tickets for an Orioles-Senators game and got to see the locker room, meeting Brooks Robinson and then Gil Hodges, who managed the Senators, by the field. I later contacted him when he was with the Mets and reminded him of his kindness.
I have attached some reply letters I got from the teams, the American League, and the Sporting News.
Great memories.

Absolutely fantastic! Things were sure different in the 60s. I wonder what one would receive in todays environment.

That Mets letter is especially nice. Bing Devine personally responded, and the date - Sept. 30, 1966, was the day Larry Dierker took a perfect game into the ninth, but lost to the Mets, 1-0.

Fantastic! So glad you kept those! A much different time.

Sorry about that Mark.
Actually there's a CD of that game on eBay listed by the seller vendiamo...but probably no reason hearing it happen again.
The Mets and Astros had some battles...I was on hand for the 1986 playoffs.
The Gooden-Ryan matchup in that series was one of the best pitching performances I ever got to see. Gooden gave up only 1 run i 10 innings while Ryan also only gave up one run and struck out 12 in nine innings.

Not much of anything most likely. Probably very few replies.
Yeah, different times.
I always say when discussing my autograph collecting that I'm doing it over 60 years...when players didn't charge and didn't scribble their names.

I am Vendiamo. I was the guy, back in 2001, who got John Miley started putting his games on CDs. That's why that date jumped out to me - that game has been a good seller over the years, and Dierker was a good friend of Johns, even visiting him at home. I've been selling John's CDs, with his approval, for 25 years now. Andy Holden (Baseball Direct) is the only other authorized seller of John's material.

Wow!
That's so funny!
What were the odds you'd be the same seller!
I'll have to check out your other listings.

Dierker is one of the guys in my autograph collection of MLB Managers.
