I never heard that Bonilla had another deferred payment he received. From the article:

Bobby Bonilla (again): A second deferred-contract plan with the Mets and Orioles pays him $500,000 a year for 25 years. Those payments began in 2004.

Only benefit to the Bonilla contract coming up every year is it’s easy to figure out who has even a basic level of economic knowledge. The folks
Always mocking the Mets (or other team) immediately
Reveal their ignorance.

The reason the Mets are mocked is because they made the deal with Bonilla expecting to profit from it because they had a lot of money invested with Bernie Madoff at the time. If that had worked out as they were hoping, they would have made a lot of money while still paying Bonilla almost 5 times what he was owed. Instead they lost money when Madoff's scheme was exposed, but Bonilla still gets a lot more than he was owed.
