Trade Deadline Blah

I keep thinking about the Reds being possible buyers at the trade deadline because they are within striking distance of the wildcard spots. Then I remember every other team is within striking distance too. So there are no sellers and the trade deadline buzz is dead due to expanded playoff contention. I know people complain about some of the rule changes, but this, IMO, is the worst of them all since it destroyed mid-season trades. The Rockies and White Sox have no notable trade bait. Luis Roberts asking price is astronomical.

White Sox were asking for a ridiculous return for him last year as well based on his 2023 performance. He hit .224 with an OPS+ of 85 in 2024, and currently he's at .185 with an OPS+ of 64. I'm not sure why that would even get a mid-level prospect in return.

The Reds need a better defensive outfielder, and they were connected to Robert Jr in the off season. It came out that the White Sox were asking for 4 players including more than one Top 100 level prospect.

I think he is a true bounce back player if he could get out of Chicago. That has to be demoralizing. His running style on the base paths would fit with the Reds. But man, he can't stay healthy. Last year he played in 100 games.

I think we talked about Robert on here before. Dude strikes out a ton and doesn’t know how to take a walk. Those guys hit a wall and regress badly once they lose a step or get injured.

I don’t think he’ll come near his peak of 2023 again.

I don't think they can expect to get much for a guy with an OPS+ of 64 (not a typo).
