We got a new dog today. Like usual we looked at all the rescues in a 150 mile radius. We pick dogs different than most. We look for a dog that has been severely abused and has been in the system for a long time This one as soon as he seen us put his head down and started shaking from being abused. We took him outside to their little dog park and spent 2 hours with him before we decided he was the right dog for us.

What a handsome guy! It is very admirable to take the time and adopt the dog that most needs a home and needs to get out of a shelter. I have a feeling that you are going to eventually realize a wonderful dog and your best friend. Here are my 2 rescues, Izzy (white) and Brody (brindle). Good luck

Phil those are some great looking dogs. This is our 4th dog since we got married and we done the same with the other three. I couldn't have asked for better dogs. It usually takes a few days or a week for the dog to figure out he is now at his forever home. He is still pretty shy and walks very slow and carefully around the house. This morning was awesome. He slept on the floor at the end of our bed. When I got up this morning I woke him up. He opened his eyes and looked up and his whole body started wagging and he hopped over and was rubbing his head on me. Then he got kinda shy again but for a minute he was insanely happy. Today I have been trying to get him used to having a back yard he can run around in. We named him Ted.

You did great! He looks like a real good boy.

Hi Ben,
Look up the 3-3-3 rule for adopting dogs. I have found it to be very accurate. The first part is 3 days for a new dog to start to feel any kind of comfort. Ted is doing great! Love it!

Living in the country, my wife and I have a continually refreshing cast of animal family members (cats, dogs, and horses). Many I have shared on the other pet thread, so will not repost them here. This year we have lost two cats. Having lived in the country for nearly 25 years, I have created a rule known as the Law of Conservation of Cats which states that the loss of a cat will invariably lead to another showing up in short order. And so, recently, a small Manx cat showed up and has paired up with our other barn cat.

So, this is Stubbs.

Added in edit: I just noticed the white tufts in the background. That is my Great Pyrenees, Beau, making an appearance by proxy.
