49 Leaf Jackie differences

The cheap printing process made numerous different color variations. What do you prefer. Dark or bright yellow? Light almost kind of black and white face or the brown face? The brighter blue hat or the more jeans colored one?

I like the bright yellow background with the brown face and not as bright hat but it can be difficult to find the exact combination you want.

On a side note, what do you consider his official rookie card(s)?
Bond bread? Blue tint? Leaf? Bowman? Etc.

I don't get too caught up in the color variances. But I admit I haven't really focused on them very much. Maybe I will start paying closer attention to see if I do have a preference. However, my primary focus would be more centering and registration.

I admit I'm biased. But I consider the Bond Bread, Portrait, his rookie.

Bond Bread portrait and insert were his RCs from 1947. If you insist on a gum card insert, 1948 Swell predated the 1949 Leaf and Bowman issues.

As far as the Leaf coloration issues, I have no preference; I'd just like to have one.

I prefer the style of the bowman and leaf but I know others disagree. Which was released first, the bond bread with facsimile auto or the picture with the angled edges?

This thread needs cards. I suppose this is a bright yellow example. I like the centering and borders but can't say I thought much about the color. Here's mine:

I think it's the coolest, most striking, iconic card of the 20th century. Almost Warhol-esque.

I've seen people on the board opine that it's ugly. Classic example "to each his own" I suppose.

I once had 5 Leaf Gene Hermanskis and they were all different colors. Don't know why I got rid of that. Was so cool.

I think the Ted Williams is aesthetically one of if not the best card out there. The only problem is with how poor Leaf’s printing process was it difficult to find an example with a clean image.

I am partial to the Musial

Dean/Zach: Thanks for the feedback. At one time I had a PSA 5 and an SGC 5.5, but neither of them could compete with this one, in my judgement. I was very happy when I was able to "upgrade" to this one and dispose of the other two.

Apologies for running this thread off track .
I have a nosy habit of looking up other peoples cards on PSA - I was curious why Jackie was only a two thinking there is back damage - The back’s beautiful just very light hints of aging

I was just trying to spruce up the thread a bit, but yes, the back is probably a little nicer than the front:

Looks like a perfect example of a 3.5

.

I go back and forth on it. Sometimes it strikes me as stunning. Other times as hideous. Still can’t really decide, but I can definitely see both sides to the argument.
