Unique Lunchbox Find and question

3 Attachment(s)
Just stumbled across two lunchboxes (Aladdin Industries) that appear to be decoupaged with cards from the 1968-1970 Sports Illustrated poster promo set. I’m unsure how to confirm authenticity due to the glue. However, was curious if anyone thoughts on how to confirm or even more information about the set.

Nice lunchbox. I am sure it will display great.

It appears that someone cut up one of those display pieces that showed all of the posters and glued them on this. I was thinking of those displays in a store where you would look at the number next to the name and pull out the poster you wanted from the cubbyholes below.

Thanks! I am excited to see how these look when I find a place for them.

Thanks, Michael! I wonder if there is a way to determine if these were from the poster or the card set.

They look to be cut from these poster order forms. I don't know that there was such a thing as a card set, but there was a set of posters.

I agree I dont recall a set of cards issued by SI. But a number of the photos used for the posters were used by Nabisco in their set.
Like this Frank Robinson. So maybe that is set OP referanced
But the lunchbox definitely looks like the SI display. Not the Nabisco cards. In fact the numbers on the photos on the Lunchbox confirm they came from the poster.

Doug nice poster. Did you buy it or did you ask a shop owner for it when you were a Young'en. Long are the days when shop owners let you take displays home after they were finished with them. But the few I got and still have I cherish. And not just Baseball. Got a Sunn Amp John Entwhistle poster, Owner said I could have it and told me a day to pick it up. When I went guy behind the counter said I needed to pay $15 bucks for it. I did because I really wanted it. Was talking with owner down the road..he said he didn't know about the $15 and gave it back to me. I was alreay a good customer but from then on even if Sam Goody's had it first I waited and bought from his shop...

You did not even need to ask a shop owner for it back in the day. Each poster was sold rolled up as a tube, and covered in clear plastic. When you unrolled your prized poster, this multi-player insert poster would magically fall out. The Insert posters were included inside every SI poster sold.

Full disclosure - I stole those pictures from an ebay listing

It does look like there was a card set. However, poster cut up probably makes more sense and most likely.

Ok good thread I learned 2 things ( Thanks Perez Fan for info on poster , hope you are on the mend) And Brownie thanks for info on card set. I did find a thread on the cards from 2019. That led me to these cards on Heritage. Although Keyman mentioned that the cards were Perforeated and I have yet to see a card from this set with Perforeated edges. I think if I was to buy one as a type it would have to have at least one edge perforated .
I found a Football poster card on ebay. Although PSA has labeled it a Corn Flakes card. And I think buyer beware of these in or out of a case.

Thanks!

Fun fact.... The 1968-70 SI Poster listed as Ernie Banks really pictures Billy Williams. It's a super cool action shot, and was my favorite as a kid. Only problem is it's not really Ernie!

This seller actually got it right...

Interesting! I’m curious the stock of the graded cards if none of those has perforations as mentioned.
