Rest In Peace Ryno!
Was just announced that Ryne Sandberg has passed. Met him at Cubs camp in 2005. He was such a nice kind person!
|
It's been sounding real bad lately based on how ex-players, jed, and some others have been glowing about his life and past events for weeks now. It seemed inevitable things were winding down quickly.
It makes this CHC/MIL game seem less important though it's very important (MIL/CHC tied for 1st). |
I was watching the game when they announced it. What a punch to the gut. May God bless and comfort his family, friends, and fans.

Incredibly, he’s signed tons of autographs through the mail for $10 an item up until a couple weeks ago. Definitely on the Chicago Rushmore. RIP.
|
One of the all-time greatest. RIP, sir.
|
Such sad news. RIP

65 is way too young to pass. RIP. - |
He was my favorite player when I was growing up. Got to meet him and get an autograph when he did the mid career retirement and wrote his biography. Rest in peace Ryno
|
Baseball has been losing so many great players these last few years and when they pass pretty young that's so much worse. Rest easy rhino
|
Truly a sad day. Great ballplayer! RIP Ryno!

Ryne Sandberg
Such sad news. I have fond memories of watching him on WGN during my
college years. Great player, quiet and excellent. Rest in peace, Trent King |
I don't think many people would've taken Boggs as the last living member of the 1983 HOF Rookie Card class in a pool.
|
May he RIP prayers to his family and friends. Legend
|
Seemed like he was such a class act and a truly gifted ball player… I wonder where he would rank on the list of greatest 2b ever?
Might just have to look that up - Too young to be gone - but left in impact for so many. |
Hard not to like him even as a Cardinal fan. Saw the highlights of the Sandberg game this morning. What a memory. RIP Ryno.
|
When I was 8 in 1985, I got a Boy’s Life magazine with Ryne Sandberg on the cover. A couple of years after that I had a favorite player, and by 1989 I had gained a favorite team.
Rest in peace, Ryno. You were the best. [emoji26][emoji120] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I feel like I just watched Wade Boggs riding a horse around Yankee Stadium just a few years ago. Mortality sucks! |
Sad news indeed. Tough stretch for us 80s kids...
|
:( RIP Ryno...sigh... my generation too!

As an adult, Sandberg was my favorite player. I liked the fact that he just shut his mouth and played the game. Last night, while sitting on the couch, I saw the feed come across my phone and I was just shocked. In 2001, at the Richmond Classic show, I had Sandberg sign a replica jersey. I was hemming and hawing on whether to have Sandberg sign on the front or back of the jersey. Sandberg said "on the back number in silver looks really slick" - that was enough for me.
"The reason I am here, they tell me, is that I played the game a certain way, that I played the game the way it was supposed to be played. I don’t know about that, but I do know this: I had too much respect for the game to play it any other way. And if there is a single reason I am here today, it is because of one word: "Respect." I love to play baseball. I’m a baseball player. I’ve always been a baseball player. I’m still a baseball player. That’s who I am." |
Just came across this thread, and teared up a little. Ryno meant so much more to me than baseball. Been surfing Ebay again today for more Sandberg autos. RIP

As a lifelong fan, it was bittersweet to be at Wrigley for the first home game after his passing. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b3d4bfdaa8.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ed8e4679f7.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...954e32aec1.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...968b227a0b.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a407b632b8.jpg |
