Real or Fake Post Cereal Vintage Cards
Does anyone have any tips on how to tell if the 1960s era Post Cereal Baseball cards are real or fake??
What should I be looking out for if buying them raw/ungraded Any info will help, thanks |
Can you post some pictures if you think you have some counterfeits being offered to you? I think the card stock, perforations, paper pasted over cardboard, etc mean very few counterfeits are produced of these cards. I would figure only Mantles would be faked.

One thing to remember
In 1961, you could order most of those cards from the factory and they come perforated and the stock is much thinner than those cut from a box.
If that's what you are worried about, then that is your answer. As to Post Cereal fakes, I don't remember ever seeing or hearing about them but I suppose anythng is possible Regards Rich |

I don't think I have ever run across a fake post cereal card. I often see where someone is selling a Jello version as a Post or a perforated card as hand cut. However, a counterfeit I don't remember ever coming across.
This thread needs a photo. Here is a card I personally cut from the box back in the day. I had absolutely no clue that one day I would discover it was one of the rarest Post cards out there. |

There is a guy on ebay that list reprinted Post cards. He does identify them as such listingbtgem as 2022 -1963 Post cereal card.
That doesn't mean a buyer might not try to resell them as authentic. |
Ah, it looks like a bad photocopy printout. You should be able to tell by the feel and the white card stock. Looks like the print is also smeared and wider than the original.

Joe Torre Cards
The reason for the color discrepancies is: Torre was on 3 different boxes of cereal. Grape Nuts Flake 12 oz, Top 3 10 oz. and Sugar Coated Corn Flakes.
Post was concerned with the colors on the FRONT of the boxes. So, there are shading and color variations for the cards. Dan Mabey's book explain this in the Bragging Rights section of the book. GNF 12 oz - Pinkish face, dark brown eyes etc.. Orange flesh face on SCCF and so on....The cards on not fakes just the showing the tints of the boxes they were on. |

Steve- those were cards I posted from ebay, sorry about that I should have mentioned it in my original first response Michael- will the color differences vary from player to player I could also post all of the ones I own currently if that helps |
Post Cereal Cards
Jake,
That is correct. Many of the players will have color differences as they were on more than one box. An example: Bobby Richardson: Post Tens - Orange Flesh Face, Black Cap, Yellow Bat Post Toasties 12oz. Regular Box Top - Yellow/Orange Face, Blue Cap, Tan Bat Post Toasties 12oz. Pour Spout Box -Brown Flesh Face Blue Cap Deep Tan Bat AND White Carboard back. |
