Little help -- Opinions on authenticity

2 Attachment(s)
Hello all -- Bryan here new to forum... I recently found this D304 and I am trying to get some opinions on Authenticity. The card looks really bright/crisp for its era (*has me slightly concerned) - but was told it spent the last 30 years in the back of a drawer. My biggest reason for questioning real or fake is the back text appears BLACK in color to me versus the Olive/green I see on most examples of this rear. Any thoughts as to -- a black variation or is that a sign of reproduction...

Thanks

Bryan

Except for the fuzzy scan it looks good to me. We'll see what others say..

These are from my previous collection for comparison. I no longer own them.

Thanks Leon.. I think the old "80's" encasement really limited my photo opportunity. I am supposed to pick this up this week. Once I've completed the transaction, I'll take new photos for the board.

IF it's a reprint, it will be the best one I have ever seen, especially with the bleed through on the borders. Good luck!

Bryan, welcome aboard Net54.

This example of this same card that appears on the TCDb web site appears to my old eyes to have a black-printed back like the card you are acquiring: https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/si...on?PageIndex=1

if the back is truly black...I'd be concerned.

I thought that at first. And I remembered something about them having green backs, but then I went and looked at others. Admittedly, I have color seeing issues. I really do.
But does this look like a green back?

And, as I said, I really do have color seeing issues. When I was in boot camp, in the military, I wanted to go into Forced Recon but I couldn't because I didn't pass the color seeing tests. So, if the colors are truly different, then no way it's real. Or, at least, I have never seen different color printing on their backs.

I'll take a flashlight with and look for green hues. Going later today I believe.

back also has that artificially aged look? dunno. but i'd be concerned.

Larry Fritsch has been selling the D304 reprint set for at least 30 years, and it appears their Brunners Butter Krust backs have black printing (and a bottom right corner reprint designation on border). It appears that the bottom border has been trimmed to remove this reprint designation.

Here is an image of some of those reprint D304 cards.

AI.. :) says they are dark olive green for the backs.

I have this in hand (currently my only D304) and it looks like black to me. So, that said, this might be one of my erroneous (handicap) color issues. If so, my apologies. I can't recall it happening with cards but I guess I wouldn't know what I don't know.

I was 17 when I discovered I had the issue...weird.

Well than what are your toughts on this one... 1922 Neilson's -- all the coloring / off centers look real to me. Cardboard color of back seems potentially too "grey" compared to other examples.... but the "bleeding makes me think legit"... also old crappy encasements... I'm less concerned here, but I'm certainly not confident. Might need an authenticity clause in bill of sale....

Thanks
Bryan

leon i think all the d304 backs are black except the butter krust which are olive green. i dont like the lack of definition on ruth's face. mine shows more...cant upload the scan at the moment.

Thanks. I didn't go back and look and didn't remember.

Two things-

1. The Ruth pics have been made smaller.

2. Not looking good for the D304.

BTW, I went back and looked at the Buttercrust again, I showed above, and it's so slight of a difference on the screen, I didn't notice. Some of that could be my sight medical issue, I dunno

And here is a definitely legit D304 of Matty with the green print back, which is the color seen on the Brunners Butter Krust backs. I must admit that offset printing shown in the original post is an intriguing mystery.

Here is updated photos of D304 -- same photo, just captured/uploaded different, hopefully a better image.

See I agree, your back card paper almost looks white (babe ruth)... where as this one seems much more grey... I think i need to "measure" each one also... Feels like an exciting find, just don't want to over-invest.

A non-blurry image would help...from what you have shared it looks like a reprint to me.
