PSA same serial number two different grades????

Hi Gang:

I am not a graded guy so I don't know all the machinations. But can someone explain to me how a PSA graded card with the same serial number have two different grades? See:

Someone submitted it for a grade review I’d guess and it was bumped up to a 10. That’s all I got.

No mystery. Nothing's changed. PSA just makes it up as they go along.

;)

Yep, PSA agreed it was a 10 after it was resubmitted.

Thanks guys. Not being informed about how PSA goes about their business I thought if they changed the grade they would assign another serial number.

I assume everyone who resubmits gets a higher grade?? :)

Back when I was an annual member of PSA, I used my 15 included grades one time to do a Graded Card Review submission. I think 6 of my 15 were upgraded, the others stayed at the same grade.

That was probably above average at the time. If you crack and resubmit, they have to give it a new cert number. If you send back the original flip, they'll remove the original card out of the Pop Report so that it stays more accurate.

New grading company TAG, which does assessments using Machine Learning, can spot cards getting resubmitted and promises never to give the same card a higher grade, or you get some cash bonus for fooling the algorithm.

In 2021 PSA bought Genamint which was supposed to give PSA the same functionality. I don't know the extent to which their technology is used in today's grading process. Here's the original article:

Many online posters (like me) believe PSA bought that in order to shelve it and not have to compete with it.
