Help, wrong cert number mystery

2 Attachment(s)
Wondering what I may be doing wrong here with this ‘53 Jackie - I wanted to see if BVG may have had some high res scans of this card but when I looked up the cert on their site, somehow this shows up on their site as a Payton Manning football card.

I sent a request for info from Beckett but thought others here may have solved something like this in the past.

Mistake? User error?

Thx for any insights

Jeff

I get the same card as you when I put the cert # in BGS. But when I select BVG, I get "No Record Found."

I encountered the same problem a couple of years ago. I contacted Beckett and went through the process. They were going to re-slab it for free, but told me the card was subject to regrade.

A few years back Beckett transferred their entire data base to a new system - screwed hundreds of graded card up - incorrect numbers, numbers deleted and assigned new ones, etc.

I was sent a form to fill out and they would re-slab the card and issue a new grading number.

The following is the text of the email I sent them and their response - this was after a couple of phone calls.

"I own a 1948 Bowman, Carl Braun rookie, card #72 that was graded and encapsulated by BVG in 2002 as a 6.5. The label has an incorrect serial number and bar code. I have attached a screen that reflects Beckett information regarding the card, when it was graded, pictures of the card front and back, and information regarding the incorrect label bar code and serial number. The correct bar code and serial number should be: 2236368 as reflected in your web site. The bar code on the label is 02236360 and the numerical data above the label bar code is 0000063100. The casing has not been tampered with and is in excellent condition. It appears to be an administrative error from 2002.

I would like to know how I should proceed in getting this corrected. My contact information and problem summary follows:"

Beckett's response:

"Hello,

Please use the form attached for the card that needs to be assigned a new serial no.

Thanks,

I elected to just keep the card as is. What a pain in the ass.

Hope this helps. Jim

Oy, that does sound like a PIA. I will probably do the same as you - leave it alone and don’t worry about the error.

Thx a lot, Jim.
