Wrapping up my year-long Jackie Robinson project
1 Attachment(s)
It's been a year since I started my Jackie Robinson run. I ended up deep down the rabbit hole learning about his life and his impact on baseball, the civil rights movement, and society in general. Such an amazing story and an amazing human.
I really want to thank everyone in this community for your help along the way. I've learned so much from all of you. I put together this chronological digest of the most interesting (to me) bits of both Jackie's history (on and off the field) and information about his cards. I know there's no shortage of information about him out there online, but I hope that y'all find this compilation interesting/useful. Please let me know if you notice anything that's incorrect or misleading. https://medium.com/@brockzilla/i-spe...s-161cda99dc7d |
Wow, you weren’t messing around. Beautiful cards and a fitting tribute to a towering figure in sports and American history.
Minor nit to pick: I don’t think the point about Bowman not having a team logo license in 1950 is correct. The Dodgers logos do appear on Robinson’s cap and jersey. Unlicensed issues have to remove or obscure them. |

Great collection. I notice the absence of Old Golds, is that intentional?

I love the images on those Old Golds and the write-up on the back, but I don't own either yet. Just haven't had much luck finding decent examples at a decent price. |
A few pieces that I'd love to pick up -- let me know if you have one you'd part with:
- Any of the 1947 Bond Bread set of 13 - 1947 I'm Rooting For Jackie Pin - 1948 Old Gold (Catching) - 1952 Dodgers Schedule Card - 1955 Topps Hocus Focus #16 |
