1990 Score Earl Cunningham Bat Obscenity
For those who are still interested in these types of junk mysteries, I dug a little deeper into the Score Cunningham bat coverup in a blog for Junk Wax Gems.
I'm really hoping for this to circulate and end up in front of Earl or anyone at Score ca. 1990 or anyone who may be holding proofs, photos or uncut sheets that could potentially reveal what they covered on the bat knob. Also if anyone here has any leads or has anything to add to this card, I'd love to hear it and credit you in the article. Even if you have a card with a different shape or color of coverup, I'd love to see it. https://junkwaxgems.wordpress.com/20...ken-situation/ https://i.ibb.co/RkdygSwV/IMG-3924.jpg |
An acquaintance of Earl's has been in touch, he spoke with him and shared my article.
Earl says that his bat knob said KID HELL which was his childhood nickname. Jon P. and I have both been able to find the words within the coverup, it definitely forms if you really just give it a good long stare. My thoughts: Pretty lame of Score to obfuscate something so benign. But coming off the 1989 Fleer stuff, I guess... Did any get out without the coverup? Maybe a proof or match photo thing? |

I can see it when I look at it on my phone screen. On a desktop PC, not so much. Maybe my eyes are trained from those crazy 1990s posters in the malls - you know the ones.... Stare, focus, blink....
Here is a pic I made with the words lightly added. KID HELL it is. Only took 35 years! |
Pretty cool

I think you nailed it but for a slight tilt to the right and little bow to the letters for the curve of the knob. At least that's what my eyes are telling me. |
Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing.:)
