1926 Kut Outs - Piece of the Puzzle Solved

Just picked up this envelope and don't recall ever seeing another one, though there definitely could be one/some out there....

I already had the card...

I still get excited about solving the smallest of mysteries...

This blub is taken from the PSA website-
The 1926 "Kut Outs" baseball card set is a series of 20 players consisting of 10 subjects from New York teams—the Yankees and the Giants. Each die-cut collectible is uniquely shaped depicting a player in action, but are all approximately 2" x 4-1/2." Each photo appears in black-and-white and has the player’s name written below the action image. Though the exact origin of this set is still unknown, its all-New York roster strongly suggests a local company and the set appears similar to the 1927 Middy Bread Cardinals/Browns set. Key cards in the set include Yankees Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Earle Combs, Tony Lazzeri and Herb Pennock and Giants Frankie Frisch, George Kelly, Freddie Lindstrom, John McGraw and Ross Young (Youngs), among others.

Nice, I remember you in Chicago a couple of years ago trying to figure this set out.

It looks like the picture on the envelope is Lou Gehrig. A similar picture of Gehrig appears in the Rogers Peet set and, I assume, the Kut Outs set.

Nice find Leon. I am making an assumption here...inside the Yankees envelope there would be the 10 Yankees in the set, and the Giants envelope would have the 10 Giants players. At 10 cents per envelope, this would have been an appropriate price for 10 cards (if not a little on the expensive side). I imagine any other divisible amount of cards per envelope, 1, 2 or 5, would have seemed extravagantly priced for the fanatical baseball tyke of the day.

Here's another 1926 Kut Outs HOFer that was my type card for many years, until I sold it via REA last year:

FWIW Combs and Lazzeri are rookie cards.

Thanks Mark, for showing the Gehrig card. That just "ups" the coolness factor of the envelope for me.

And thanks to those who shared some of these seldom seen cards.

Huggins from my last collection. I no longer own it

Cool discovery, Leon.

Here’s Combs with a nearly severed head…
