Old Men Using Apps

I've been collecting since 1969 (56 years in old people years) and have amassed a sizeable set collection. I know I really need to catalog exactly what I and I know there are now apps that can help with that.

My problem is it seems as though most of the apps on the market are best used for newer cards and grading. I have neither new cards nor a need to grade. I just want an app that allows me to take pictures of what I have, and allow me to organize them together so I know what I have in each set. If it tells me the current value, that's nice too.

Is one app better at that than the others? Collex, Ludex, something else. I don't want to get overwhelmed with trying to figure out how to use the thing.

Thanks,

i have been using TCDB.com for many years to maintain my collection inventory. it keeps everything online instead of an app on your computer, but it has all of the checklists for almost all sets and is an easy interface to use and a friendly group of people to help newbies. it doesn't have current pricing information, but it will show you links to cards FS on eBay. it also has a great trading function. check it out

TCDB has been a great site, but what happens if it suddenly disappears, or if they decide to charge you to use it? You are able to download PDFs of all the things you've listed in your collection, but this doesn't help matters if you haven't done this right before the site potentially goes away or you have to pay to play and don't wish to. Also, you'd be forced to manually input all this information to some new place if this happens. Seems like people shouldn't be 100% dependent on this site.

To be clear, I'm not looking for a checklist site, I'm interested in a site where I can also do photo storage for insurance purposes.

I would just set up a folder on your computer, and then do front and back scans and keep a consistent naming convention. Ex. 1954 Topps 128 Hank Aaron Front, 1954 Topps 128 Hank Aaron Back

You can also use a google sheet (their version of excel) for free and keep an inventory. You could use the PSA set registry but its not great unless all of your cards are PSA graded

I input a bunch of m114 info to TCDB which they then told me wasn't a valid set so it vanished. The only stuff that stayed was for the m114 stuff that was already on the site before what I entered. I had entered pictures for the ones that didn't have any, my pictures are still up.

When I pointed out that they had m114s on their site besides the ones I was denied permission to add, they told me those were a mistake.

So the whole site runs on the whim of somebody...

The best site for that is an external hard drive.

My simian friends and I are disappointed in your comment.

I recall your mentioning this not too long ago in another thread. It's so deflating when you volunteer a great amount of your time in an effort to do good, only to be shot down for what feels like ridiculous reasons. Or you share a discovery and some person or people all jump at the chance to take credit for your efforts. I'm sure this has happened to many people reading this in regards to sharing data or research in the hobby or baseball history fields. I learned my lesson early on and just don't share most anything anymore. It's a shame, but that's how it turned out.

For many years now, if I make any particular discovery, I just sit back and wait to see how long it takes somebody else to think they discovered that information! Usually, it seems to take years, if at all.
