T206 Grading Coaching
1 Attachment(s)
I think I officially stink at eyeballing alterations. Yes, some are super obvious trim jobs but other than that I don’t know that I can pick up on alterations. For example, any idea why this card received an “authentic altered” grade? I can see many issues with the card (tape, paper loss, creasing, etc) but was color added or something else?
Thanks for the coaching! |
Tape...
Tape added and removed in top right has caused paper loss to the card as you noted. This is enough in most cases to receive an altered notation. The card is not trimmed.
Not bad eye appeal overall however for such a low albeit accurate grade. |
Ah ok, Thanks for your input. For some reason I thought those issues would still be within the 1 grade and altered meant someone tried to improve the grade. I typically stay away from “A” but decided to snag this one because it didn’t seam like someone did that; just 100 years of tough love.

Nice card...I cropped the image and reduced its size to better show off its beauty. Great pick up.

Here’s A great, to the point article by Matt Femulee - Meant to understand “A” grades while at the same time explaining why it’s confusing.
