Trying to value a graded Authentic
 

Hey! So I like to do a lot of TTM. There is a card I’m looking at that is graded by SGC Authentic w evidence of trimming. This card would be cracked out and sent off for signing.
My question is how to value/comp the card in making an offer?

My valuations would probably be different than others. I tend to rely more heavily on appearance and I tend not to buy "Authentic" trimmed cards. Therefore, I would value the card less than a PSA 1, depending upon the issue, etc.

You will probably get a wide variety of opinions depending upon specifics of the situation.

The amount of times I've seen trimmed cards for sale that say "Evidence of trimming" on the label and the seller says "Card Looks Perfect" or "card looks amazing" is insane. It better look perfect, somebody trimmed the imperfections away lol...

I value them on par with a low grade (poor) raw equivalent.

If you follow trimmed cards in auctions, you will see a wide variety of selling prices. If it's a lousy trimmed job, and the borders are missing, it very well might sell for less than a card that's graded poor. But if it displays well, and has wide borders and sharp corners, I seen trimmed cards routinely match the prices of cards that grade very good.

Thanks so much for the opinions! I normally wouldn’t buy an authentic, but it’s a very nice card and doesn’t “show” the altered/trimming.

Well presenting rare cards sometimes sell for up to PSA 3-4 prices even in Authentic holders. Check PSA's auction prices realized website to get some data on similar cards to the ones you're looking for.

I personally just don't like the sentiment much of trimmed cards even if only slightly trimmed being more appealing than an unaltered card. It probably causes more cards to get trimmed using that sentiment.

If a card is min size that is a very different story. I am a big fan of min size.

For me, the problem with buying them is that if I ever want to sell them - I hear all the excuses. Oh, that card is trimmed or altered, I'll give you 80% of a P/A price for it.

But when I bought it, all I ever heard was how good it looked for what it is, and why I should pay up LOL. "Are you kidding me?!? There are 4's that don't look that good!"

The last time I recall trying this was on a '52 Topps Yogi that SGC had deemed an A because it was pretty obviously diamond cut. But besides that, the card was perfectly centered and had one small hairline crease that was difficult to see. It probably could have pulled a 4 or a 4.5 if not for the cut. When I sold that one I will admit I at least broke even.
