Is OPS, BA, HR the new Triple Crown?

Since national networks have decided RBI isn’t important enough to show on individual stats when somebody comes up to bat, giving us OPS instead, I’d like to pour out a little liquor for the dearly departed stat.

I don’t care about OPS, WAR, or whatever else the modern stat nerd thinks we should value — give me what worked for around a 1.25 centuries.

Hard to say. Baseball seems to WANT to value the more complete player who gets on base, scores runs and drives them in but at the same time someone like Kyle Schwarber is exciting to a lot of people.

I like batting average, run production and stolen bases with triples being an honourable mention.

:)

A Few Suggestions

Most strikeouts without swinging. aka swingless Ks

FB/AB - Foul Balls per At bat

SIAW - Self-inflicted ankle wounds with batted ball

162-GP - Most games spent entirely in the dugout while on the major league roster

For extra credit in the whiff era of baseball:

What's the modern Mendoza line (if you are old enough to know what the old Mendoza line is, Remember those Sunday paper stats, I do)? .175 ??

For Pete’s sake, get your stats straight. That was a single triplicate post, not multiple duplicates.

Schwarber was good at all of those things this year!

.365 on base percentage is good
111 runs is very good
132 RBIs led the league

He even stole 10 bases, which isn't bad considering that he's listed at 5'11" and 229.

He's missing defense of course, but offensively there's not a lot to complain about here.

This season he was better than he has been. He hit under 200 in 2023.
