Ty Cobb T206 PSA Grades

4 Attachment(s)
I just got these cards graded. I really thought I would get better grades from what I've seen others of others graded by PSA and, more importantly, based on the condition of these. Do you think I should crack them open and have them regraded? BTW, I'm asking PSA to center the Red Portrait one since they still have them.

Don't waste your $$ cracking and resending

The way they are applying their standards these days - those grades look about what I would expect today- to you point - both, but especially the red are strong eye appeal for the grade examples.

Good luck even getting a response about centering the card before they ship it back. - you should be able to gently tap the holder to center the card in it - I see they left some space for it to move.

Hope that helps. Hit me up if you are considering selling.

Gorgeous cards, congrats on owning those! I would say with the little bit of staining and the centering issues, those grades seem about right to me. Just a couple light taps and you can center that card yourself, easy peasy.

Gorditadogg 10-10-2025 08:58 AM

Very nice cards! What made you decide to get them graded?

The fronts both look a grade higher (in my opinion) but the staining on the backs costs you that grade. I think they're accurate.

perezfan 10-10-2025 10:13 AM

Those Cobbs would have graded 5 and 4 respectively, if graded just a few years ago. Anyone who submits cards for grading at the current time is pretty much getting screwed.

As for the tilting cards, it still amazes me that anyone would use PSA, and that they consider this to be an adequate presentation of such great cards (or any cards for that matter). Create a damned slab that fits the card! It's not like T206 is a rare issue, for God's sake.

As for the "framing" of the cards... no amount of tapping and manipulating is going to fix those ugly crumpled baggies that surround the beautiful cards. Those Cobbs (like all vintage cards) would look infinitely better framed in black "tuxes" that actually fit. I'll never understand how anyone opts for PSA, but suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Honestly I'm surprised you got a 4 on the Red with the staining on the back. Easily could've a 3 IMO.

parkplace33 10-10-2025 11:12 AM

I would be happy with those grades.

snb 10-10-2025 11:22 AM

I decided to get a bunch of cards graded so when I die, my daughter doesn't have to deal with the hassle of trying to get them graded to sell them.

I'm with you. Those tiny toning stains shouldn't have been so downgrading. I think they should have each been a full grade higher.

Great Cards Man ! Beautiful

calvindog 10-10-2025 04:06 PM

Those are beautiful cards. At the very least, the red Cobb looks undergraded.

snb 10-11-2025 06:54 AM

I want to thank everyone for your input. I can understand why I received these grades from PSA. I'm very happy with these card no matter what the grade is. They are in beautiful condition, particularly the red one.

Tomi 10-11-2025 08:04 AM

The term buy the card not the holder would apply here. Great cards.

luciobar1980 10-13-2025 01:51 PM

To the people pointing out the stains.. bollocks I say.. no way these stains, which are pretty minimal, not to mention somewhat expected, would have affected the grades nearly as much even 5 years ago. PSA out they damn minds.

Regardless, gorgeous cards!!

Agreed. But i think everyone is realizing the harsh new grades are a little ridiculous and bidding and paying according to the card.

Zach Wheat 10-14-2025 06:30 AM

Pretty much agree with most here. Nice cards. If I were a buyer, I would definitely pay a premium for the superior eye appeal.

Peter_Spaeth 10-14-2025 08:43 AM

It shouldn't be hard to tap the red one back into place, it may shift during shipping even if it leaves PSA centered.

But no amount of tapping will fix the unsightly crumpled baggie surrounding the card.

Not seeing the baggie that you keep referencing. Seems more like frosting around the sides. But maybe you view the frosting as a baggie?

I have seen other PSA slabs where it definitely looks like some weird plastic around the edges that has a tendency to wrinkle, which I'm guessing is what sets your teeth on edge. But I'm not seeing that feature with these slabs.

Then again, maybe when it comes to the red label, all you see is red.

It’s even worse than you imagine, frosty crumpling.

Hard to imagine anything worse than crumpled frosting.

Great Cards! I'd rather have this frosty, crumpling version than the holder in the original post. At least it's in the right holder. The original picture in post#1 is a miscarriage of justice with those gorgeous cards swimming in there like that. Absolutely stunning examples with PSA butchering the frame job. It's what they do best. Just use what they have lying around at the time. Must be nice to be so universally loved.

Did you get this image from PSA's website when looking up the cert #? I wonder why the image you posted has the card in a proper holder, but the image the OP posted has the card swimming around in the holder. Both are newly graded and both with the same cert. Did PSA possibly reholder it?

Yeah, from their site. Maybe it was caught by QC after that image was captured and flagged as “too centered and straight” and then was reholdered with the proper extra space and tilt.

Ah, that's interesting. Thanks for clearing that up!

Clever... the part in bold. Some truth to that indeed.

But you really cannot see the difference between the clean PSA slab and the crumpled baggie effect?

Here's a clean one...

And another clean one...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/13648158333...Bk9SR966q968Zg

Now here's a sloppy crumpled one...

You obviously have a great eye for cards, as evidenced by your awesome collection. But if you can spot the minute differences between a 5 and a 6, certainly you can see the much more obvious differences between these 2 styles of slabs.

Well, I guess I spend more time looking at the card than at the holder.

But I suppose some people have a hard time focusing on the card because the holder is too distracting.

perezfan 10-14-2025 11:09 PM

I display my cards so the presentation is important to me. But to each his own, of course.

It just seems so unnecessarily lazy on the part of PSA, especially considering they position themselves as the premier brand, their prices are the highest in the industry, and you wait the longest time to get your cards back… all for that??

I definitely display my cards as well. I guess it’s not quite so troubling to me, although truth be told, only a very few of my cards have your abhorred feature.

Here’s an example. It’s true that if you focus on the periphery, you’ll probably be distracted. But when it’s in my display case next to lots of other eye candy, I really don’t notice the holder at all.

snb 10-17-2025 01:27 PM

I emailed PSA and they replaced the slab and centered the card before shipping it to me.

Leon 10-22-2025 11:43 AM

To me, the original cards had the deserved grades and they are nice examples. We see gross miscarriages every day but these aren't some of them.
