1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. RC--PSA 10 ??

Will Future generations consider buying a PSA 10 Griffey for say 20K, it looks like a possibility==maybe a better investment now than a Mantle in the $5,000 range=--any opinions?==buy or not?

Nobody can predict the future, but that seems crazy to me. PSA currently has 4,228 Griffey 89 UD cards in a 10, and only 1,658 graded 1952 Mantle's total. The allure of a PSA 10 is crazy to me, especially when it is so common and easy to find. Not to mention the 32k+ Griffey PSA 9's, most of which are probably indistinguishable from the PSA 10's.

Yup, crazy--several PSA 10 recently sold on-line--$4000--$5,000--the younger generation are now making money, they will drive the market.--

It's still not back up to it's pandemic peak, and the population will still increase significantly. I just don't see the demand to absorb that supply AND drive the price.

I wonder how many of those $4,000 sales are completed. This is not a 4K card. I would consider if the sales are legit or if there’s someone pumping the market with “sale prices” but not actual sales a la the Jordan rookie market.

I was curious about this -- how are sales prices captured in sites like 130point, and how are those sales figures manipulated? Many of my own purchases that I make through sites like eBay don't make it on the comp lists.

I think all they can do is capture final bids but there’s no way to know if anyone paid.

Nashville card show--

I picked up a Griffey PSA 10 at the Nashville show---there was a lot of vintage cards available too, I enjoyed the show being a nice slower pace than the National.

I picked this up about 10 years ago. I was walking around the Philly Show at the end of the day on a Sunday. I had $35 left in my pocket, looking for the best card I could get at that price. I think I did OK.

Only if I could pick up other cards at 2014 prices…

I was looking at some Ohtani the past couple of days after his great game and the run up is astonishing in many cases -- some easy cards have tripled. I strongly suspect manipulation. There are 34 trillion Griffeys, the prices make no sense to me, I started a thread on this not long ago. Messi too. Just for fun I put my PSA 8 on ebay just slightly above where reported sales have been and not one person even asked about it.

Yup, the Spread for PSA 10's versus PSA 8 are a super wide margin. Seems all cards fall under this rule. I would like a couple PSA10 in the 2K range if available.

If you don't have a PSA 10 of Griffey, it's better to have a PSA 1-4 trying to sell. Prices for those are strong, and the .5pt increments are rare. Just like people collect rainbows, Griffey collectors want the rainbow of grades for 89 UD.

This phenomenon exists in the Pokémon world too. You’ll pay about the same price for a Charizard in a 1 that you will for one in a 5.

Is altering a card to get a low-grade the next thing ?

That ship sailed, it seems. Your best bet for getting one that cheap may be to buy some 9s and play the PSA crack and resubmit game.
