Popularity of Pre-War Team Postcards

With so many vintage collectors expanding their horizons these days and jumping into the pre-war world, it seems that the majority of pre-war cards/sets are on the rise, almost across the board. One area that does not, however, is team postcards. If anything, it seems that interest/demand for these has come down substantially in more recent times (except for the 1915 Red Sox, of course).

Thoughts as to why?

I love team postcards. My guess is that, collectors just want their cards to show and focus on the one player they are interested in.

I love team cards, great way to pick up multiple HOFers on a budget.

I have always loved collecting them for the same reason. When wearing my dealer hat though, they are nearly impossible to sell these days except at a loss. That’s given the fact that the ones I have include Wagner, Cobb and Mathewson.

Town ball, semipro, industrial and low minors PCs are the same way. I've gotten killed on generic cards of these sorts.

Cyclical. Like everything else in the hobby. There was a surge of interest when people realized that they existed ("Eureka!"), then stuff came out of the woodworks and it cooled down.

For the future, who knows. Personally, I don't think you can go too wrong with MLB team and minors PCs with HOFers on them. Niche for sure but very interesting to the people in that niche.

Those are the only team postcards that I ever seem to find.

I'm not doubting you, Phil, but that seems so nutty to me. Unless some whales thought these were going to be the next big thing and bought them up at bigger and bigger prices until the bubble burst, or some similar scenario, I don't get why these wonderful cards, and most especially the ones with top HOFs,, pennant-winners, etc., would ever see their prices depressed. They're so great! If just about everything else is going up, why wouldn't they? It's not like there's ever going to be many of these out there, why would they ever be a drag on the market? Maybe it's a good time to buy them.

Not a postcard, but the Fatima T200 team set card of Cleveland has been soaring of late. With Joe Jax, Nap and a nice dog, why not?

The dog's name was Larry.
