WTB: All Gil Hodges Cards And Oddballs
 

Hi everybody,

I think most n54ers know me as the Red Schoendienst collector. But I am to the point I have all of Reds cards I can get, everything remaining is just impossibly rare or hasn't come up for sale yet to fit my specifications (some have, just are asking prices multiples of true value). So I'm at a sort of stand still. Not adding new cards for months at a time is a drag.

I've always loved Gil Hodges, the stories of him and interviews I've seen. He was a very nice person. He played and has releases from the mid 40s-early 60s, my absolute favorite time period of baseball cards. Plus lots of oddballs of all kinds.

As of now I need all of his cards, standard releases and oddballs/premiums/pins etc, I'll even look at original photos. I am looking to make this venture somewhat affordable, I am ONLY looking for Playing Days items ('63 and back)! I would really like to build a raw binder, but I know for rarer items and oddballs this may not be possible. Low-Mid grade with decent eye appeal is my top priority, a little oc, some soft corners is fine, NO creases please. Of course on rarer issues exceptions can be made. Only looking for cards with just Gil, no team stuff or multi player please. It would be phenomenal to get a good lot of Gils Topps/Bowmans all at once to help take out some of the "common" cards. But I will obviously look at everything playing days.

PS: since I don't have any cards of Gil yet, here is a snapshot of mine from 1961 of Gil signing his Wilson Meats Premium on the side of a cardboard box in a grocery stores pharmacy.

No luck at all so far. Posted on 3 different social platforms and have only had a single person reach out.

Did everybody grade all of their Hodges cards? I guess everybody else also really likes him because I've not gotten any base cards offered, even from scammers 🤣.

Happy to Get my First card of Gil. His 1960 topps. And it's the exact kind of condition I'm happy with!

I haven't had any luck with forum goers yet on raw base cards. I found this one on FB. It would be nice to change that though 😃.

Just crossed off 52 and 54 topps.

Since I haven't shared a card in a while, the 52 example I got is quite rough, some minor paper loss, rough corners, surface imperfections. But wow the centering is impossible for this card. That's not a main goal for me but in this instance I changed that.

Will most certainly be broken out of the case.
