Antique French Photo - question?
2 Attachment(s)
Question--Collectors of antique Photos, A gentleman is willing to drive 7 hours to buy this photo, I'm curious why, the thermoplastic frame is rather large 5 x 7 ,probably a unique size, there are notes on the back from a previous buyer, any thoughts, thanks for looking.

Frame is quite old… can you safely open frame and see if anything is in the back ?

Appears to be an ambrotype, based on overall size it is probably a half-plate size and more desirable than the common smaller size. Gutta-percha frame that is probably half of the value of the entire piece.

I am wondering why you are calling this a French photo. The house in the background has a widow's perch or widow's walk which is a New England feature. The subject house has an enclosed one. These were built on houses in seaports. The idea was that a woman could go up there to look for ships returning from sea.
