1991 Sotheby's Copeland catalog

Posted By: John Wojak
There is a listing on ebay for reasonably priced copies of the Copeland collection Sotheby's auction catalog from 1991. It is a tremendous catalog with full color images of a lot of things that you've never seen before and won't see again, and is a great reference book. The listing is:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1839967343

Just thought I would post this if anybody was interested.

Posted By: Marc S.
I was the first person to bid on this auction (a day before you posted the link), and it now looks like I won't be stealing this for $6 -- but instead will have to pony up $20 or so to take a copy of this home.

Thanks a lot!

I was going to post something here much closer to the auction close, so I didn't end up costing myself too much $$$.

Posted By: Jaime Leiderman
You can always find this catalog for a reasonable price.
Sotheby's printed a huge lot of them, so they can be found very cheap on eBay. $3-$5

I don't exactly remember how many were printed, but sure remember Lipset comments back then (OJ newsletter) about many, many catalogs out there.

I'll try to scan Lipset's Copeland auction review, with final prices w/high bidders paddle numbers and names.

Posted By: Brossart
I for one appreciated the hint; I did get my copy, with the "1937" Diamond Stars proof sheet pictured. In fact, I thought your post was at least partially in response to my earlier inquiry.

Sorry to drive up the price a little. I don't think I was responsible for more than $2-3 of it, and I really did want to score a copy!

Vaughn Brossart
Portland, OR

Posted By: Julie Vognar
can thank me. I had NO IDEA what a Dutch auction was, and probably would have sniped had I known. Fortunately, I got into the winner's circle anyway.

Posted By: Julie Vognar
...but "@home" went bust, and when i tried to change my user name to my new e-mail address, ebay didn't like that sort of thing anymore, so I threw up some terribly significant numbers and letters (an historical date+0 and a swedish mystery writer))

It was so CONVENIENT, being able to use my e-mail address as a user name! Grrr.

Halley is bidding )or was) on a Fan Craze Three-finger Brown that I wanted...guess I wouldn't have bid on it.
There are some things that I would bid on against anyone--like a nice Scrapps that I need.
