Vintage Cap questions

Is there any chance that this is a baseball cap? If so, what would 47 stand for? If not, what other sport/profession might have a cap similar to this style? The dealer I acquired it from said he bought it as a baseball cap in Western MA, but he had no specifics.<br />2. How old is the hat? Is there a way to date caps by the interior or exterior?<br />3. Real longshot, but if this is a baseball cap, any idea what team/area used it?<br /> I realize these are "pie in the sky" questions and please realize that I am not trying to proove that this is John Mcgraw's first baseball cap or anything similar, but I figured it is worth a shot posting it.
