F/S: Lot of 19th Century Harper's & Leslie's Woodcuts [REDUCED AGAIN]

Posted By: T206Collector
I am selling the following woodcuts as a lot for $165, which will include shipping and insurance. I am not sure what I paid for all of them a few years ago, but I am pretty sure that this is now below cost. I cannot go any lower than this.

E-mail inquiries to pmifsud3d@gmail.com

June 6, 1885 - Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper - "The Chicago Baseball Club" - Half page (page no. 253) - Featuring Cap Anson (front/center)

August 5, 1882 - Harper's Weekly - "The Metropolitan Baseball Nine" - Full page (page no. 493)

September 30, 1882 - Harper's Weekly - "The Providence Baseball Club" - Full page (page no. 621) - featuring Harry Wright, Charles Radbourn, George Wright and J.M. Ward

July 24, 1869 - Harper's Weekly - "Presentation of a Champion Bat to the 'Red Stocking' Base-Ball Club, Cincinnati, Ohio, on its Return Home" - Full page (page no. 477) - Inscription on bat lists "H Wright"

* When "Full page" is indicated above, that means I have only scanned the baseball image, but there is another half of the page in tact.
F/S: Lot of 19th Century Harper's & Leslie's Woodcuts [REDUCED AGAIN]

Posted By: barrysloate
As a sidelight to your woodcut of Harry Wright's giant bat, it seems to no longer exist. Collectors have long wondered whatever happened to it. It's a little too big to misplace, and the only other possibility is it was destroyed. And why would that be? Always been one of the hobby's great mysteries.

Posted By: T206Collector
That is strange. I had never thought about that, but it's true -- it would be quite hard to misplace. I suspect it was destroyed in a fire or perhaps just buried somewhere...

Posted By: barrysloate
Hard to imagine someone taking the time to bury it. Perhaps it just proved to be too big and unwieldy and they decided to do away with it. Maybe it's in a barn or warehouse somewhere.
