Overwhelmed by auctions.

Posted By: joe maples
Hi, does anyone else out there feel like there are too many auctions going on out there. I love looking at all the catalogs and websites. Certainly can't participate in all of them. Reminds me of parents and grandparents looking thru the Wards, Sears, whatever catalog and calling them wishing books, because they could not afford to buy anything. Just a thought.

Joe

Posted By: Brian E.
Don't worry because in 2 weeks to 3 months, many of the items will make their way to Ebay....anyone else notice that lately? I certainly have and I only watch Cobb and Crawford auctions.

Brian E.

I like looking at the web sites and you're right, I look at the auction catalogs like I did a Sears catalog (wish book) many years ago when I was a kid Back then many things were not as available as they are today with the internet and large shopping malls. And then there's ebay - your 24/7/365 auction network...

Posted By: warshawlaw
I have to limit myself to only going after cards that I think I will not see again for a long time. Even then, I am overspending every week. Thankfully, I do not collect anything except cards, or I'd truly be dead meat.

Posted By: Kevin Cummings
If there was something in every current auction that I was after and it forced me to pick which one I wanted to participate in most, then, yes, I might feel overwhelmed.

But being extremely focused with my want list, when there isn't a darn thing in any auction that I really need or want, then I feel that there aren't nearly enough auctions!

Come on, Barry! You don't need a vacation. Put yours up early!

Posted By: Anonymous
I tend to agree--it would be easier if these things were shown in 1-2 forums (eBay and eBay). But--since it isn't that easy, could someone list the most reputable online auction houses (Mastronet, etc.)? That might me a helpful resource to keep up with these things, time permitting.

Thanks!

Posted By: Judge Dred (Fred)
Look at the following link:

http://www.network54.com/Index/36815

This is the VINTAGE LINKS link found at the top of the forum page. You can select auction sites from there. I'm sure Leon might chime in and state that although the links are available, you should research the auction companies for yourself.

Yes, Mastro, REA, Sloate, Lipset, 19th Century Only and others (I didn't mean to leave any other reputable houses out - there are more) are great but you should always check out the sites for yourself and draw your own conclusion as to whether or not you want to bid in their auctions.
