Here's how SGC graded this card

Posted By: pete
I couldnt find the original thread but a few of us were guessing how this card would grade....to refresh your memories, I am giving this card to my brother who spray painted Juan Marichal's face way back when he was about 10 or so. I sent a letter (and called) to SGC requesting that they put the card in a holder for me. Various threads have brought up the way grading companies decide what grade if any to give certain cards that may be altered or whatnot. Anyway, here's how it came back, and I'm happy they did it for me so next time you have a card that you want in a holder, try writing a letter and asking, it cant hurt...pete-
http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1132072648.JPG

Posted By: Ed
Did this grading cost the same as grading that would have yielded an actual numerical grade?

Posted By: pete
yes it did cost me $8 but a mere fraction of what the other cards are worth, im giving it to my brother for christmas as a keepsake/joke along with a couple of other cards for his collection, he has recently gotten back into collecting cards and he's going the vintage route as well.
pete-

Posted By: tbob
SGC will grade this card and give it a grade of "authentic" and slab it but won't slab any handcut 1909 Obaks as "authentic" and will keep the money I sent to them for the cards' grading. Gee, sounds fair to me. (Sarcasm intended).

Posted By: pete
maybe if you submitted a story along with the $...something like, when my great grandfather was a little boy, he was showing his mom that he knew how to use scissors and handcut the cards...and go on to say its the only thing you have left to remember your great grandfather by...maybe put a teardrop on the letter as well...then again, maybe not

pete-

Posted By: Dan Lundrigan
Tbob maybe you should also spray paint a giant black blob over the faces of your Obacks to get that coveted SGC AUTHENTIC grade "Sarcasm also intended"
