Ridiculous hypothetical quandary of the day!

Posted By: Doug
If you were given $10,000 and HAD to spend it on vintage cards, what would you buy? It can be an individual card or any combination of cards as long as it adds up to $10,000. Hopefully this one will be interesting!

Ridiculous hypothetical quandary of the day!

Posted By: Eric B
Really it comes down to 2 choices. Several cards or just one. I always prefer the 1 card route. In that case with $10K it would be something incredibly rare from an unpopular set or semi-rare from a popular one.

So make it the best condition T206 Demmitt or O'Hara St Louis for me.

But considering it further, I guess the real answer would be to choose what would appreciate the most. If I guess right, I can sell it and then pick up my Demmitt or O'Hara later and have some extra.

So the correct answer is non-sports N-cards In EX-MT condition or better.

Posted By: Anthony S.
I'd probably go the smörgåsbord route and try to find worn but presentable examples of type cards such as:

E107 Breisch Williams
N690 Kalamazoo Bats
Just So Tobacco (would have to look like it had been hit by a truck)
T217 Mono cigarettes

I'd put the rest of the money on account, or maybe buy the ceramic dalmatian.

Posted By: Richard
This is a fun one to think about.

Probably like many, my answer to this question will change just about every time it's asked. Most days though, if I had $10K that I HAD to spend on vintage cardboard, I think I'd try to take that money as deep into the 1913 Voskamp set as I could get.

Not sure how far I'd actually make it before my attention got drawn to something else, but I sure would like to add a few more examples to my meagre collection.

Richard.

Posted By: Jason Carota
My first purchase would be an E107 Jimmy Collins (good condition.) I would then put together the PC742-1 Boston Americans Series set in VG condition. Finally, I would grab an M101-4 Joe Wood (with a Morehouse Baking back) in whatever condition the remaining budget would allow.

Posted By: 1880nonsports
condition not overly important - just something about owning a four base hits metropolitans card - or any FBH for that matter.... Without "found" money it's not in the cards for the near future. I also would like to "cap" my mid-grade N28 set off with a CRISP Anson but have held off pulling the trigger. I even surprise myself with the last choice as the most striking Anson card to me is his N162. Need over desire "-)
