154 F-50 Yuenglings at PA estate sale today
Posted By: <b>Peck</b><p>I attended an estate sale this morning in Spring Glen, PA that had a rather large find of 1928 Yuengling Ice Cream cards. There were a total of 154 cards that included 6 Ty Cobbs and 5 Lou Gehrigs. The cards were sold in ten lots of 15 cards each and one lot of four cards. Choice lot with the best Cobb and Gehrig brought $2150. Missed the price for the rest of the lots. The cards there included 53 of the 60 cards in the set. No Babe Ruth and #48 Earl Smith was also absent. Can anyone provide a scan of a Yuengling #48 Earl Smith to prove the card actually exist?

I believe it is still a "family" run business, and I know there are still a lot of Yuengling's living in "South-Central" PA. I went to school with a few of them back at ol' Dickinson College.* In other words, a local person with some time and interest on his hands, could probably find out a thing or two.<br /><br /><br />* "I come pretty near goin' to Syracuse," I says, "only they wasn't no railroads runnin' through there in them days."<br /><br />"Where'd this friend o' yours go to college?" says Carey.<br /><br />"I forget now," says Ike.<br /><br />"Was it Carlisle? Posted By: <b>Zach Rice</b><p>I can’t add too much information but I was at the sale this afternoon (a nice 7 hour drive) and picked up one of the lots with a Gehrig and split another lot with a board member. It was a nice sale with some quality cards.

If that is indeed the case, you'd think that they might have figured out how to make a lager that *didn't* taste like crap. Every one of their concoctions is as putrid as a typical Coach's Corner auction. Then again, they're based out of an area where teeth are considered "bling" (believe me--I spent three years there!).

Didn't work out that way, but with the exception of Peck, I think everyone that had an interest in the cards walked away from the auction happy.</P><P> </P><P>Afterwards, Zach and I met a guy that was working on a Tharps set as well as a Yuengling set, a Yuengling family member who is 4 cards shy of a set (needed both #48 and the Ruth), and a fellow who just collected vintage Yuengling related items, and in addition to seeing Zach, I had the pleasure of meeting his grandfather too.</P>

Posted By: <b>Double-P-Enterprises</b><p>There was a large find of NearMint and better Yuengling's that walked into last years' National in Cleveland. Multiple cards of everyone except Ruth & Cobb. The grandaughter of a factory worker or something like that. I would assume if one factory worker kept some, others did as well and they'll surface from time-to-time.

Either way, I'd enter a twelve-step program before hoisting a Yuengling to my lips. <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14>

Actually, I was surprised at how much Coors costs now, that was the cheap beer of choice when I was in high school. I was also a bit taken aback when I saw that my beloved Pabst shot up from $11 a case to almost $14 a case this year. Stuff like Dead Guy Ale and Flying Dog are few and far between with my two boys and a tighter beer budget these days for me. <br /><br />Great pick-ups on the cards guys, the Gehrig is one of my favorites:<br /><img src="http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii226/02-14-84/1928_Yuengling_Gehrig_PSA-7_01a.jpg">
