Ruth / Cobb card that ended tonight

Posted By: Kyle
I'm sure many of you saw this very unique item, and I assume that the winning bidder is a member on the forum (I'm guessing Mr. Leon got it).Anyone know what it actually was?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140294565884

The research I put into trying to figure it out, I date the image on the card either 1927 or 1928, when Cobb was with Philly. Was he a coach into the 1930s thought?

Something I did stumble upon is that unidentified player in the background, back turned to the camera - black high socks, looks a lot like the unidentified player in the background of this card:

(thanks for the scan BMW - don't have any of my previously owned posted online)

So after seeing that, I start to consider dating the card into the early 1930s.

Anyone else figure anything else out about the card? Congrats to the winner.

-Kyle

Posted By: Matt
It's a card thought to have been put out by the makers of the Tabacalera La Morena issue - Glen posted another card from this issue on the forum a few years back. I believe it's a 1928 issue.

My Trade/Sale Page

Posted By: leon
I did get it. I have 2 other cards, with the same backs on them, that I probably date to the early 30's. They have cartoonish fronts on them.....No other research I did turned up anything. I thought it was a neat card for my collection. You don't see too many period cards with both Ruth and Cobb. It's not a Tabacalera though.....
