I had a similar experience when someone tried to sell me a 1933 Goudey Ruth that their Great Grandfather collected and it has been passed down in the family for 80 years. It was a Dover Reprint and had reprint stamped on the back. Again... this should have been a 5 second conversation but it went on forever. The family was convinced that this card was from 1933 and nothing I could say or do could change their mind. "You don't understand. We've had this for 80 years." Worst of all really was that they left thinking I was the biggest liar, thief, con artist imaginable.
