you've basically answered your own question with your choice of the attributive prefix 'pseudo'. Etymologically, from the Greek pseudes, 'pseudo' means false in the sense of lying. Granted, in English there are quite a range of translations often originating from particular disciplines. Some fields are quite overt about the negative connotations of the prefix,e.g. historiography. Others are a bit more nuanced and less overt,e.g. mathematics and pharmacology.
Having said these things, I would say that your language which offers us a sense of your sensing of the taping as an act of lying answers your own question with a resounding NO TAPE.
all the best,
Barry
