I saw a short video clip on the news this week and one of the featured interviews was a mom and she was talking about her family's investing in unopened material and how much they spend a month on sportscards ( >$1k).

It so reminded me of the way folks talked of baseball cards in the mid/late 1980s. "I'm just buying these boxes/sets and putting them in the closet for my kids' college education." Because in those days, if you extrapolated the price of cards out 10-15 years, then yes, you could have paid for college with just a little investment in 1985 Donruss sets, or unopened 1986 Topps baseball.

But looking back, we all know what happened and the junk wax era was labeled in retrospect. Problem is, no one was calling it that at the time.

I wonder what we'll be calling this era in 10-15 years???
