Unpopular opinion, but Jeffries resume is far superior to Johnson’s.
Johnson beat Jeanette, Langford (who wasn’t really a heavyweight even then), a washed up Fitzsimmons in 1907, Burns, and he defended his title against only middling competition and champions at lower weight classes (O’Brien, Ketchell), and a washed up retired Jeffries after he quit and become a 300 pound fatso. His actual record is not very strong. Compare it to Jeffries resume. He lost to Jeanette (who he beat far more often), Choynski and Hart before he was washed up.
Johnson has the socially popular narrative and biography suited to its audience today. Jeffries has the ring record.
